Stitches are knots made by the act of sewing. They are also needle works that is put together.
Some basic stitches and the common tools used are:

 Scissors
 Needle
 Thread
 Tape
 Thimble

Running Stitch: This is a basic stitch in hand sewing and embroidery. It is basic because all
other forms of sewing are based on it. The stitch is done by passing the needle in and out of the
fabric. More thread is visible on the top of the sewing than on the underside.

Even Tacking: Is tacking where stitches are of equal length and they are not longer than half
the length.

Uneven tacking: Uneven tacking is stronger and quickly done i.e. small stitches of about one
eighth long at regular intervals. At the end, tack with a knot or back stitch. Continue with a new
thread until the tacking is finished, remove pins.

Back Stitch: Here the stitches are made backward to the general direction of sewing. The
stitches form lines and are most often used to outline shapes or to add fine detail to an
embroidered picture.
