I read a book a couple of years ago called “The Rise of The Nones” by James
Emery White. A few years ago, the American Religious Identification
Survey was conducted and some things in the report we already knew:
mainline denominations are losing ground; church attendance across the U.S.
is down; the Bible Belt is less Baptist today; and there was an increase in one
category that was not previously discussed- “the nones”. These are people
who are not affiliated with any religion. The nones make up the nation’s
fastest growing and second largest religious category. It is estimated that one
in five Americans now claim no religious identity.
No doubt we live in a different culture today. I believe that the church has to
evaluate the “why” and “how” of what it is doing. Methods have to change.
We know that God does not change, nor does His word. We are still given Inside this issue:
the mandate to “go and make disciples”. We have to decide the best
strategies for accomplishing that.

Pastor’s Remarks
In a short while I will be sharing with you a simple outreach/evangelism
strategy for the year, 3 x 3 Evangelism that I hope everyone will consider Widow/Widower Luncheon 2

being involved in. It basically consists of choosing three people to pray
for, invite or bring to Bible study and church, and sharing your story of

how you came to know Christ. It is simple enough that everyone can be February Birthdays
involved at some level. We want to minister to our own church family, but

we must engage the unchurched and “nones”. Please pray. Service Schedules
