CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION
Cereal is one of the most important parts of a healthy and complete breakfast. A majority
of people remember waking up in the morning and head over to the dining table to get milk and
their choice of cereal brand. As most people know, the Philippines does not produce wheat.
Because of that, the country is reliant on imports from the United States of America and demand
for it is expected to increase in the following years.
Because wheat is used to make flour, cereal manufactures raise the price of their products
in response to the demand of wheat. This certainly poses as a problem to consumers
Although the country cannot produce wheat at the time being, the Philippines is still one
of the top five exporters of bananas (Musa acuminate). Bananas are commonplace in markets
and households in the country to the point where it is used as ketchup.
