EXPERIENCE AS A MATHEMATICS

TEACHER DURING SCHOOL

INTERNSHIP
As part of B.Ed curriculum, in the 3rd semester of our course we were sent
to different schools for the school internship programme. I was sent to
Mount Carmel G H S S, Kottayam. I was assigned the standards 7B, 8D and
9B there.

I had to take 50 lesson plans. I got the chapters “unchanging relations”,

“repeated multiplication” and “square and square roots” in standard 7,
“money math” in standard 8 and “polynomials” in standard 9. I prepared
the lesson plans according to the learning objectives. I divided these
chapters into 50 lesson plans. I choose group activities and group
discussions as the learning strategies. Number of activities were included
in the lesson plans.

In the first few classes I was little tensed. But after 4 or 5 classes I gained
confidence in teaching. I was able to manage the class very well and the
concepts were conveyed clearly to the students. I have included activities
during the class and the students actively participated in those activities.

I think I had to improve my communication skills through practice. My

fluency in English was not so good. And I will give appropriate
reinforcement to the students.

The training period gave me good experience as a mathematics teacher. I

enjoyed this 4 months of training and improved a lot as a good teacher. It
gave me an opportunity to improve my teaching skills.

It helped me to become a good teacher and a good person too. Through this
internship programme, I reflected on my own teaching and realized my
strengths and weaknesses. It also paved way to become a professionally
successful mathematics teacher.
