In high school, year-long classes carry one (1) credit hour. Semester classes carry 0.5 credit hours.

Students
must earn at least 23 credits to graduate.

AMMS students may be taking the following high school credit classes during 8th grade.

French/Latin/Spanish- When students pass two semesters of 7th grade World Language and two semesters of
8th grade World Language, they are awarded high school credit for French 1, Latin 1, or Spanish 1. Their 8th
grade semester averages will appear on their high school transcripts. Usually, these students continue into
French 2, Latin 2, or Spanish 2, all of which are offered at the on-level or honors-level, for 9th grade. An
opportunity to decline the high school credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of 2019.

Language Arts- Students who are accelerated in Language Arts may be taking a high school Literature and
Composition class in 8th grade. A course example is 10th Grade Literature and Composition (on-level or
honors). Their 8th grade semester averages will appear on their high school transcripts. An opportunity to
decline the high school credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of 2019.

Math- Students who are accelerated in math may be taking a high school math class in 8th grade. Course
examples are GSE Algebra 1, Accelerated GSE Algebra 1/Geometry A Honors, and Accelerated GSE Geometry

grade Science of the Physical World course, with approximately two extra units of study. Both first and second
semester averages will appear on students' high school transcripts. An opportunity to decline the high school
credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of 2019.

Introduction to Art- Students accepted into this semester connections class will earn 1/2 credit for high
school. The course final average will appear on the students' high school transcripts. An opportunity to decline
the high school credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of 2019.

Audio Video Tech and Film- Students who pass both semesters of the high school credit AVTF class are
eligible to accept high school credit for Audio Video Tech and Film 1. Their 8th grade semester averages will
appear on their high school transcripts. Because the equipment used at AMMS is different from that used at
JCHS, JCHS’s AVTF teacher will have AMMS AVTF students take a skills assessment in late Spring. The
assessment will be scored to provide families with data to use when making the decision to accept this course
credit and move to AVTF 2 in 9th grade or decline the credit and repeat AVTF 1. An opportunity to decline the
high school credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of 2019.

Introduction to Digital Tech- Students who pass both semesters of the high school credit IDT class are eligible
to accept high school credit for Intro to Digital Tech. Their 8th grade semester averages will appear on their
high school transcripts. JCHS’s IDT teacher will have AMMS IDT students take a skills assessment in late
Spring. The assessment will be scored to provide families with data to use when making the decision to accept
this course credit and move to AP Computer Science in 9th grade or decline the credit and repeat Intro to Digital
Tech. An opportunity to decline the high school credit and retake the course will be offered in the late Spring of
