3D Mind Model

The 3D Mind Model is seems to derive ideas from the clean language model of
changing a persons metaphoric problem. Changing the metaphoric problem into a
metaphoric balanced state means the problem is solved. The 3D mind is about
finding core components of an unresourceful metaphoric state and substituting them
for drivers that build a resourceful state.

3D MIND
This process can be used to

1. Change an unhelpful state

2. Gain a previously desired state
3. Get more of a (already) resource state

1. Change an unhelpful state

Identifying the driving meta submodalities

Balancing / countering these meta drivers
Energise the mixture
Integration though time (past / future pace)
Testing

Have the subject describe their undesired (unresourceful stuck) state. Guide them to
a phrase or metaphor that sums up their stuck state. I use the term metaphor for my
convenience for the rest of this description. Be sure to be mindful of model of the
world and rapport. Ask ‘what is it like?’ ‘How does that feel?’ ‘How does it look?’
‘How does it sound?’ ‘How does it smell?’ or ‘If there was a smell how would it
smell?’

Identifying the driving meta submodalities

Physically take that metaphor out of them and hold it in front of them (dissociating
that experience) and ask what constituent parts make up the metaphor. Here my
understanding it that we are exploring the ‘ meta’ submodalities and are looking for
the ‘ driving’ components.

An example is ‘ I don’t get on with my sister’ which could be (in the subjects words)
thingified as “ dislike” - the metaphor and the constituent parts of dislike may be
fear” and “ uncertainty or a sense of distance due to a difference in lifestyle or a
lack of respect for his/her feelings which would indicate coldness.

Take the constituent parts (separating) out physically and set them aside. Once
these components are removed, replace them one at a time and find the drivers.
This process should be repeated until the base driving components have been
identified.

An example is “ fear” may be composed of “ pain” and “ lack of control” . And

uncertainty may be uncertainty’

You should check for congruency (use you senses) that the real drivers have been
identified – you should also ask the subject which of these sub components are the
drivers.

Balancing / countering these meta drivers

Having identified the meta drivers, ask the subject what ‘ thing’ we they could add
to the meta driver so that it would balance. Let us assume the drivers have been
identified as “ pain” and “ uncertainty. The subject identifies “ pleasure” as a
counter to pain and “ security” as a counter to uncertainty. One at a time
physically mix them up in front of the subject after mixing be very sure to ask if there
is anything else that could be added to make it even better. Do this for each of the
driving meta submodalities. There may be many things to add in order to reach a
balance. Be observing congruity in the subject too!!.

It is (I think) crucially important to have the subject experience each of these things
in turn before you mix them in so they are creating / experiencing (associating) a
resource state. Remember we all have all the resources we need and / or we can
create them. Watch the subject and check for congruence before you go off mixing it
up.

When you have got those mixed balanced wodges of stuff, mix the wodges together
and be curious of the subjects response, ask if there is anything else that could be
added to make this mixed balanced whole even more better – if there is add it.

Energise the wodge

Ask the subject just how the ‘ wodge’ could be made even more better, how it
could be energised – use you senses and go for it!! Could it be hit by lighting could it
be more colourful where should it be could it take a specific shape???

Integration though time (past / future pace)

Put the energised even more wodgey thingy on the floor infront of the subject and
have it expand and grow to the subject size – make noises and have fun doing this
you can have as much creative license as poss here, have fun and make this even
more real for both of you. Ask the subject to step into the thingy (association).

Ask how this is – check what happens. You can have the thingy expand, become
one, energise the subject – generally integrate this into/with the subject.
Have the subject see themselves in their past events but with this new resource and
new choices and ask what differences this makes, do the same with future events
and again ask what differences this makes having this new resource and new
choices ( this is deliberately loaded with presuppositions). Have then come back to
the here and now (important!).

Testing
Ask them to get that original sensation/sense of/ experience of the problem state that
they used to have ( notice the language again) – my experience was that old state
was gone Taddahhh. If there is refinements of you know it hasnt worked
(congruence checks) do it again…
