I really am glad to be back here. I miss my Alma Mater, my classmates, teachers, and of
course, the activities that we had in my high school years. Well, I could still remember this
scenario 3 years ago, where I was also invited to share my experiences and empower the
Scouters with the learnings I had when I was still in the Girl Scout movement.
I feel so privileged to be invited again. Actually, we will have an exam later but aside from
the fact that I couldn’t say no to Tita G, I also would want to see the excited faces of the
Scouters. Am I right Scouters? May I hear a loud Mabuhay from u guys? Mabubu-hay!
Mabubu-hay!
Before I lay down my arguments, joke, before I lay down the points that I’d like you to understand, realize,
and eventually, embody, let’s have a chronological order of events. So now, let me begin with the reason
why I joined the Girl Scout movement. (share experiences while Tita G was pregnant and I got so scared).
Ing-ani pa ba gyapun sya karun? Well, good for you! HAHA! Anyway, I’d say that every events of our lives
has valid reasons for if not then I wouldn’t be here speaking in front of you, right?
In relation to this year’s theme, Believe, Belong, Be More, let me provide you with the values that I need
you to understand, realize, and embody from this day and throughout the rest of your life. Why the rest
of your life? Because as they say, once a Scouter always a Scouter. Agree? Hep Hep- Horray! Hep Hep-
Hooray!
I was a Sophomore student when I started to become a leader. I was hesistant back then but Tita G
encouraged me to take the responsibility and to trust in myself. She helped me to go out from my comfort
zone. And that triggered me to believe in myself although I seem to fear the possibilities ahead of me but
she would always remind me to believe in myself and to seek God’s blessings, always. Of course, you
cannot instantly become a patrol leader, I could clearly remember what I have to undergo. The aspirants
were tasked to recruit members, sing the National Anthem in front of the teachers, many more which
were designed to help us become patient in all our endeavours. If you neglect this value then what would
become of you?
You’re here to not just enjoy the activities but of course to discover your capabilities. From the preparation
of this school camp up until your last day, you will figure out that you have developed your individual skills
and you become a leader in your own distinct ways. Be happy with what you’re doing and challenged
yourself to exemplify not just the values I have mentioned but to bear in mind the values of a true blooded
Licean! Moreover, may every Licean materialize Dr. Abueva’s statement, “We should not just criticize and
complain about our weak democracy and backward country. We should do something concrete and
constructive as serious and patriotic Filipinos who believe in democracy.” Let us be responsive citizens of
our country and be part of the change, the society needs.
