Key Teaching Points

BATTING
- V-grip with thumb and forefinger aligned down front of that bat
- Hands in the middle of handle
- Side on stance
- Feet shoulder width apart, knees bent

Types of shots
- The pull shot
- Hitting a full toss to leg
- Back defensive stroke
- Froward defensive shot
- Off drive

BOWLING
- Grip ball with thumb underneath and first two fingers on top, seam upright
- Side on to target
- Non-bowling hand reaches up high
- Roll with straight arm (with ball)
- Follow through with bowling hand across the body
- Effective run up
- “Step, reach, roll, release”
Types
- Pace
- Spin: outswing, in-swing, off swing, leg swing

FIELDING
Catching
- Hands cupped, palms facing to ball, fingers spread
- Bring ball into chest
- Eyes on ball, head still
- Move into position quickly
Ground fielding
- Stay in front of ball
- Bent knees
- Low body position
Overarm throwing
- Body side on to target
- Stepping towards target
- Throwing hand moves back and non-throwing hand points in direction of target
- Follow through with throwing arm across body
Underarm throwing
- Step towards target
- Extend throwing arm back
- Swing arm through, releasing ball and follow through with palm facing target

RUNNING BETWEEN THE WICKETS


- Appropriate calling: yes, no, wait
- Non-striker backing up with bat just inside crease
- Hold grip with one hand and place end of bat in other hand
- Reach bat out and extend arm when reaching crease
- Fast and effective turns

WICKET KEEPING
- Positioned behind wickets, it crouched position
- Palms facing ball
- Eyes level
- Change position based on direction of ball
- Once ball is received in hands, throw/release towards wickets.
