Key Teaching Points

Serve - overhead
 Weight on back foot
 Hitting arm is back behind the head with a bent
elbow
 Opposite foot in front
 Ball is tossed into the air
 Contact is made with the ball above the head
with an open hand
 Weight is transferred to the front foot
 Follow through with hitting arm and body

Serve – underarm
 Weight on back foot
 Ball is in non-preferred hand in front of player
 Hitting hand is swung back behind
 Ball is tossed in front of player
 Weight is moved forward
 Ball is hit with a closed fist
 Follow through

Forearm Pass – dig


 Move towards the ball
 Stand with feet shoulder width apart, low body
position
 Shoulders square to target
 Arms are out in front in a square with no bent
elbows
 Body weight moves up
 Contact with the ball is made with forearms
 Body stands up and arms follow through
Overarm Pass – Set
 Knees and hips are flexed
 Hands are above the head in a triangle position
 Thumbs pointing to the floor in a 90-degree angle
 Contact with the ball is made with forefingers and
thumb to cushion it and release it up
 Release of the ball extends elbow to 180 degrees
 Ball flight is parabolic with no spin

Spike
 Footwork for a spike is right to left to together jump notion
 Knees are flexed
 Two-foot take-off to control jump
 Hitting arm is pulled back behind body
 Contact with the ball is made at
maximum height
 Land on two feet and flexed knees to
absorb shock

Block
 Feet are shoulder width apart and arms are
up above head height
 Fingers are spread
 Jump up vertically above the net
 Both hands hit to the ball back over to the
other side
 Two-foot landing
