Implementation of DRRM in Schools

The Schools Division of Davao Oriental have implemented several policies aimed to strengthen the
DRRM practices and programs in schools and offices relating to the four thematic areas of DRRM, namely:
disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, disaster recovery and
rehabilitation.

All schools in the Division undertook relevant activities that emphasized disaster risk reduction and
management (DRRM) education, such as: displaying of streamers indicating this year’s theme; orientation
on the different health hazards; devoting time for discussion of preparedness, mitigation and prevention
during the rainy season in class; symposium or forum on DRRM; conduct of jingle-making and mascot
design contests; and other related activities to ensure heightened awareness and consciousness of all
DepEd personnel and learners.

Furthermore, all schools and offices are encouraged to coordinate with their local DRRM councils
(LDRRMC) and concerned agencies, to conduct multi-hazard drills to mark the significance of the occasion.
