Grade 12- Pope Innocent III

7 Cardinal Sins

Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's
recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others
arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is
also known as Wrath.

Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It
is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

Observations:

I observed that each of the seven cardinal sins has a relationship to each other. It
pertains to a person’s selfish desires of wanting to have everything to himself/herself.
The way to achieve something in a wrong way that neglects anything that is good
and to fall to darkness. The seven cardinal sins has its own negative aspect on a
person’s life by severing ties to their neighbor and experience a life that is evil,
immoral, and unholy.
4 Cardinal Virtues

Prudence disposes the practical reason to discern, in every circumstance, our true
good and to choose the right means for achieving it.

Justice is the moral virtue that consists in the constant and firm will to give their due
to God and neighbor. Justice toward men disposes one to respect the rights of each
and to establish in human relationships the harmony that promotes equity with
regard to persons and to the common good.

Temperance is the moral virtue that moderates the attraction of pleasures and
provides balance in the use of created goods. It ensures the will's mastery over
instincts and keeps desires within the limits of what is honorable.

Fortitude is the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the
pursuit of the good. It strengthens the resolve to resist temptations and to overcome
obstacles in the moral life.

Observations:

I observed that the four cardinal virtues pertains to a person who want to choose
what is right and good for the sake of everyone or the neighbor itself. Doing what is
just, equal and fair for everyone to empower each other, to find a common ground,
to build bridges across the differences to pursue the common good and willingness
of each of us to share in the responsibility.
