Objectives:
Objective 1 - The students will learn the proper way to pass a basketball using the correct
skill patterns.
Objective 2 - The students will demonstrate proper bounce, overhead, and chest passes.
Objective 3 - The students will work cooperatively during skill activities.
Objective 4 - Students will find a website on YouTube or other internet sources that show
the skill development for passing and bring the URL to class to turn in.
Objective 5 - Students will use Plicker cards to show the level of development they feel they
have achieved.
Differentiation
Strategies:
(How will the lesson address the various learning styles of the students and those with
special needs). This lesson allows students to use different strategies in developing the
skill of passing in the game of basketball. The student may also use different types and
sizes of balls to develop the skill based on their needs. The student may use different
search engines to find knowledge when researching passing skill development.
ENGAGEMENT:
Allow students to practice the skill of passing after watching videos students have researched:
Chest pass video -

(given by student Brayleigh Butler)
Bounce pass video-

(given by student Anna Ary)

( given by student Kennah Beth Lacy)
EXPLORATION:
The student will use the correct skill patterns when learning to pass a basketball. The student will
need to spread feet apart and have knees bent. The student will need to have both hands on the
sides of the ball. Students will need to have fingers spread apart and elbows bent. The student
will need to step toward the target and extend arms. The student will need to have thumbs down
and palms out after completing the pass.
Basketball Passing Skill Sheet:
Player 1 passes at the target while Player 2 watches and checks yes or no.
Then Player 2 passes at the target while Player 1 watches and checks yes or no
Player 1: Name______________________________________________
_____yes _____no feet spread, knees bent
_____yes _____ no both hands on the sides of the ball
_____yes _____no fingers spread apart, and elbows bent
_____yes _____no step toward the target and extend arms
_____yes _____no thumbs down and palms out
Player 2: Name______________________________________________
_____yes _____no feet spread, knees bent
_____yes _____ no both hands on the sides of the ball
_____yes _____no fingers spread apart, and elbows bent
_____yes _____no step toward the target and extend arms
_____yes _____no thumbs down and palms out
Player 1 will be the first passer. The player will pass 10 times from the black line to pass the ball
inside the hula hoop target. The person not passing the ball will mark the skill sheet. If the player
hits the target, draw a smiley face in the circles. If the player misses the target, draw an X over
the circle. After the ten passes write the number of times they hit the target on the line. Then
switch places:

Concepts & Ideas:
The goal of the lesson is for the students to grasp the concept of passing a basketball. The aim is
for the students to be able to differentiate between the different kinds of basketball passes, a
chest pass, a bounce pass. When bringing the class together I will explain the purpose of the
introductory activity. I will start the lesson off by explaining the passes we will be learning, to
the students. I will start off explaining the chest pass then the bounce pass. After explaining
each pass I will demonstrate an example with a student volunteer. This way I will not only be
describing the proper way to do each pass but also providing each student with a visual to use for
their practice session.
