My Wonderful Hometown, Sibu.

Sibu is the third largest division in Sarawak, after Kuching and Miri. Sibu was
named after a local fruit called 'Sibau', in the Iban language similar to a rambutan.

In the central area of Sarawak along the Rajang River, the town of Sibu forms an
entry to a wonderful part of Borneo where the Chinese population forms a majority.
The swan statue at Rajang Riverside Esplanade is the icon of Sibu town. It symbolises
peace and prosperity, as well as the great development of Sibu town.

Sibu is the main tourist gateway to many Iban and Orang Ulu longhouses. Some
of the interesting villages are Kanowit, Song and Kapit. Visitors may try their hands
at shooting with a blowpipe, weaving a Pua Kumbu, feasting on traditional Iban
pastries such as Chuan and Sarang Semut, enjoy and experience the longhouse
environment and the scenery of vast paddy field and the rajang river. There are also
mouth watering local cuisine available in Sibu such as ‘Kampua’, ‘Laksa Sarawak’,
‘Pansuh’, ‘Satay’, ‘Dumpling’ and many more.

Popular attractions in Sibu are the Sibu Night Market (7-11pm), where you can
buy clothing, souvenirs and many other products. The Sibu Central Market is the
biggest indoor market in Malaysia; it is home to thousands of stalls selling everything
imaginable. Other interesting sights and attractions are: the Sungai Merah Heritage
Walk, the Tua Pek Kong Temple, the Sibu Gateway, Bukit Aup Jubilee Park and the
Sibu Heritage Centre.

Overall, my hometown is my paradise and I am proud of it. I hope to see more

development in Sibu in near future.
