At & In (for places)
At- Name of small places
In- Name of large places
e.g. He lives in Delhi.
She was born at Allapur in Allahabad.
I live at Chinhat, Lucknow.

Note:- A big city can also be treated as a point, when we speak of


global distances; in that case, at is used.
e.g. While flying to New York I had a brief stopover at London.

On, In, At, By (for time)
At- certain time
e.g. We should go to bed at 10 o’clock.

In- period of time, name of season/month/year


e.g. I always walk in the morning.

On- Name of day & date


e.g. They came on Tuesday.

By- certain time or date in the Hindi meaning of ‘तक’.


e.g. Be here by 7 o’clock.

Between, among
Between- for two person/thing.
e.g. Anjali stands between Nancy and Shifali.

Among- for more than two person/thing.


e.g. Divide these chocolates among these five children.

In- inside to inside
e.g. My father is in the house.

Into- motion inward


e.g. A boy jumped into the river.

Since- point of time (Present & Past)
e.g. He has been studying since 5 o’clock.

For- period of time


e.g. He has been studying for 5 hours.

From- point of time (Present, Past & Future)
e.g. I will join your classes from Monday.
He waited for me from 7 (to/till) 8.
He went from Delhi to Chandigarh.

During- throughout the duration (की अवधि तक) & in course of (के दौरान)
e.g. He was away from home during the Pujahs.
The prices of things shoot up during the war.
