Approach to Site (Barkhera-Choka)

Way to Barkhera, Misrod

is a Locality where RVNL
have proposed Site Office
during construction,
about 20 minutes from
RVNL Habibganj Office
Forest area starts before
Barkhera Station
We traversed through the
2-Lane Highway with
sparce localities near
Barkhera.
There is no locality after a
few Km from Barkhera,
towards Choka
Approach to Site (Barkhera-Choka)
We entered the forest
area and drove down to a
point close to the Choka
Tunnel (These roads were
kuchcha road, used by
Forest Officials and
Maintenance Officials)
There is no habitation in
these areas
Gadaria River - is non
perennial river, which
flows through this
Sanctuary. However
water accumulates in the
bed, at places and this is
the primary source of
water to the wilderness
Approach to Site (Choka Tunnel) - Location-1
Indian Railways have 2
Operational Electrified
Lines, separated by
distance, having
different elevation and
alignment.
3rd Line shall pass close
to the existing line – Toe
wall to be developed (as
shown by the arrow)
There is a proposal
that
during Alignment
Construction (Cut-Fill, all
materials shall be
disposed at a place
down stream to create a
small dam (near Choka
Station) – water shall get
collected upstream. This
shall serve the purpose
of storing water for dry
season
Approach to Site (Choka Tunnel) - Location-1
Rock Type in this area is
Sandstone – Good
Quality
Rocks have vertical cut
and are quite stable
Rivers are non
perennial,
however, water
accumulates in patches
along the River Bed
Tiger passes shall be
proposed along with a
guided path for the
Tigers to crossover above
the Line for fetching
drinking water, during
construction and
operation
Approach to Site (Budni Tunnel) - Location-2
This has the longest
tunnel, 1.08m
Approach Road to Site
to
for carrying heavy
machineries for Site Visit,
need to be identified
The cut for the new
alignment need to be
done in such a manner
that the existing Railway
Operation doesn’t get
disturbed
Geotechnical
Investigation have been
carried out in one of the
portal face of the Tunnel
– but its not conclusive.
More boreholes may be
done
Approach to Site (Budni Tunnel) - Location-2
Rock is wearing in nature
The alignment shall
encircle the existing
alignment with a loop of
bigger diameter
Source of Water – to be
identified. The existing
water body is too far, to
be used for doing the
investigations
Approach to Site (Midghat) - Location-3
There are existing 2 Lines
at different gradient
One tunnel has very less
overburden
Rock Quality – horizontally
aligned, but soft rock,
which can be eroded by
Hand Nail
It is not a proper yard
there is a loop line at
Midghat
Approach to Site (Midghat) - Location-3
Movement of Wild Life is
frequent in this area
Approach Road to the
existing alignment/ portal
location are to be
identified
Identified issues of importance

" same,
Ii RVNL see the following challenges in this Project, as expressed by CPM Mr. Awasthi
Location of the Project: It will be challenging to do the Design and Implement the
in this forest area in such terrain- Approach Roads to the Portal Locations for

"
carrying out the Investigation Equipment, need to be identified.
Time Lines: Need to plan the project in such a manner that Monsoon vagaries can be
dealt with, efficiently. The pegging at site, tend to get worn out/ carried out by the

"
Rain, Cloud Burst, Flash Floods, River
Existing Operation of Trains need not get affected by Construction. Cut & Fill of land/
rock to be planned in such a way that the Debris doesn’t get carried to the operational

"
alignments, due to any flash flood/ heavy rain, etc.
It is very unlikely that “Working at Night” will be allowed in the Forest Area. Hence, all

"
work need to be planned during the day time.
Poaching is a problem and Consultants need to distance themselves from any collusion

"
with the Poachers.
This project is under the observation of the PMO and shall be constantly reviewed/
monitored
Identified issues of importance
Ii Quantum of Geotechnical Investigations, which need to be done, has to be assessed by
Consultant based on the available informations
Ii Based on the Geological Data, Consultant need to suggest, if the Tunnels need to be done
using NATM or Cut & Cover – this will impact our Design Budget
Ii All Designs and Implementation Strategy will be governed strictly by the sensitivity to
Environment and Wild Life
Ii Site Office for PMC during Construction have been planned at Misrod. However, some small
site offices may also be planned at Site Location
Ii Though, Client have not specified any frequency of Site Visit, during the Constructio n
Support for the Design, however, he has suggested that DDC need to plan the availability of
their resources in such a manner that, they can attend to any emergencies/ exigencies and
Progress of Construction Contract should not get affected, due to any pending action/
decision from DDC, during the Construction.
Ii RVNL is not quite happy with the work of Geodata in Alignment Design and expects DDC to
do quality job. For the Alignment Study Project, one point CPM had suggested to send
some Geodata Designers/ Draftsman in Bhopal and guided them to achieve the Final
Alignment. So, in case the desired result is not achieve, he may insist for similar action on
the Designers and we should be ready for the same.
