The Superintending Engineer Irrigation Department, (IRR)O/o Office of the


Superintending Engineer ,Director Inland Navigation Directorate Kollamfor and on behalf
of the Governor of Kerala invitesonline bids for the work detailed below from the
Registered Bidders of Kerala PWD or from any State or Central Government Engineering
Departments which are having similar functionalities like Kerala PWD.

4 Brief Description of Work

Name of work : CONSTRUCTION OF A


STEEL FOOT BRIDGE ACROSS
BADAGARA-MAHE CANAL AT
KELOTHKANDI THAZHE at Ch. 466.600 KM.

Kelothkandi thazhe is located on the 5th reach of


the Badagara-Mahe canal between Thayilpalam
and Karingalimukku . With the formation of the
Badagara-Mahe canal as per the alignment, a
vast area of land has been converted into an
artificial island surrounded by the old
watercourse on three sides and newly formed
canal on one side. Local people have thereby lost
their access to enter their farm land and are
suffering much hardships on account of this.
These circumstances necessitate the construction
of a footbridge at Kelothkandi thazhe
(ch:466.600km). Hence the estimate for the
construction of a steel footbridge is submitted
herewith for Technical Sanction. Hydraulic
particulars are as follows: High flood level
+2.000m High tide level +0.650m Low tide level
-0.650m Canal bed -2.850m. The structural
design of the main components of this footbridge
ie, Steel Girder , Pile Foundations and Pier etc
are adopted from the IDRB design ( vide Drg
No. 35/2017) prepared for Koomulli footbridge
which is already constructed. The main
difference between the Koomully FB and this FB
is regarding the vertical clearance. Koomully FB
was constructed as per old standards of vertical
clearance ( 7 m from HFL) , but the Kelothkandy
FB is proposed as per new standard of vertical
clearance ie, 6 m above HTL. So the difference
in height between bridge platform and and bund
road is less for Kelothkandy FB and Stairs are
provided accordingly. @ flights of RCC Stairs
having 12 steps each are adequate for connecting
the bridge and ground. Hence one sub column at
each end is enough for this Footbridge, whereas
2 sub columns at each end were necessary for
Koomully FB stairs.
The clear span of the bridge between pile cap
is 32.00 m and the proposed vertical clearance is
6.00m above HTL. Considering the site
conditions the bottom of the main pile cap is
proposed at the level of +1.00m and the road
level on either bank of the canal is + 2.40 m. The
depth of the pile is adopted as per the soil sub
investigation results done at this site.
The following provisions are given in this
estimate

Providing cross bund with a width of 2m and


height of 3.50m (Avg.)
Bailing out water using 5 HP Pump set.
Providing MS circular liner using 6mm thick MS
sheet for the outer casing for bored pile.
Providing bored cast in situ RCC pile of 700 mm
dia. With M25 mix, for the foundation in all
classes of soil on either side of the bridge for the
main pile.
Providing Bored cast in situ RCC piles of 500
mm dia. with M25 for the foundation in hard
rock for subsidiary piles6) Providing steel
reinforcement as per structural design.
Chipping & removing the excess length of piles.

CC 1:4:8 using 40 mm broken stone for levelling

course for pile cap.
M25 design mix using 20mm broken stone for
1m thick pile cap.
M25 design mix using 20mm broken stone for
the column, column head, beams, and steps.
RCC 1:1.5:3 using 20 mm broken stone for
Staircase foundation.
Centering work for RCC items)
Plastering with CM,12 mm thick on all exposed
concrete surfaces.
Priming coat & Painting with acrylic emulsion
on all plastered surfaces.
Structural fabrication with built-up sections for
steel footbridge as per design
Providing and fixing Bolts and nuts.
Welding with gas or electric plant
Erection of newly fabricated steel bridge by
lifting and leading to the riverbank.
Chequered precast concrete tiles over stairs of
footbridge .
Painting with synthetic enamel paint to the Steel
bridge.

This estimate is prepared based on DSR 2018


with prevailing cost index of 36.44 %. Provision
for GST @ 18 % is also incorporated in this
estimate.The total amount of estimate comes up
to Rs.1,10,00,000/- (Rupees One hundred and
Ten lakhs only)

submitted online only and in the designated cover(s)/ envelope(s) on the e-GP website. Tenders/
bids shall be accepted only through online mode on the e-GP website and no manual submission of
the same shall be entertained. Late tenders will not be accepted. A bid submission fee shall be
remitted online during the time of bid submission.

Price Bid shall only be submitted through online.Details regarding remittance of Bid Submission
Fee and Bid Security, Bid preparation and submission are mentioned in the bid document.

The bids shall be opened online on 19-04-2023 at 11:30 at the office of the O/o Office of the
Superintending Engineer,Director Inland Navigation Directorate Kollam in the presence of the
Bidders /their authorized representatives who wish to attend at the above address.If the tender
opening date happens to be on a holiday or non-working day due to any other valid reason, the
tender opening process will be done on the next working day at same time and place.

All other existing conditions related to bidding in force in the Kerala Public Works Department will
be applicable in this tender also unless expressly defined in the bidding document. The Tender
Inviting Authority/Employer shall not be responsible for any failure, malfunction or breakdown of
the electronic system while downloading or uploading the documents by the Bidder during the e-
procurement process.Details required for e-payment (Details of bank account having core banking
facility and email addressof the bidder) shall be furnished along with the tender.Tenders not
accompanied by these details will be rejected. All subsequent Government orders connected to
tenders and any revision in the rates of taxes would also be applicable to this tender.
