EPC Agreement for Gauge Conversion of Kalol(0.00 Km) – Katosan Road(37.23 Km) Gauge Conversion Total Length of 37.23 Km (approx.)
in Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway

FEASIBILITY REPORT

1. Introduction
The project comprises construction of Gauge Conversion project between all civil engineering
works (Earthwork, Blanketing, Retaining Wall, Major Bridges and Minor Bridges) and Supply
of 50 mm Machine Crushed Stone Ballast including track linking works, Electrical (General) and
OHE(TRD) works in between Kalol (excluding) to Katosan Road (excluding) Gauge Conversion
Project (Total: 37.23 kms) in connection with KLL-KADI-KTRD (37.23 km) Gauge Conversion
Project. The route length of is work will be 37.23 km. The proposed alignment of this Project is
located west side of the existing IR track of Western Railway. It is intended to design and
construct the system capable of operating at a maximum train speed of 110 kmph with an initial
axle load of 25.0 tonne. Formation, Track and bridge structures are envisaged to be provided for
25 tonne axle load.

1.1 The work for cost estimation of Gauge Conversion Project was initiated by Western
Railway (WR) and WR has prepared the DPR and the Project cost of the above
project.

1.2 The Engineering survey has been completed within the scope of work for the Project
and the detailed Estimate for the Project works has been sanctioned amounting to Rs.
2,06,95,36,163.00.

1.3 It is considered feasible to lay Gauge Conversion between Kalol to Katosan Road
Station with ruling gradient of 1 in 150 for both UP and DN and maximum curvature up
to 2.0 degrees.

2. Description
2.1 The Kalol-Katosan Road line is an important railway route on the Western Railway
and will be an alternate route for Jodhpur, Delhi & Kandla from Ahmedabad.

2.2 The area is characterized by an mostly plain topography. The average height of the
plain is 69.868 (Kalol) m to 58.275 (Katosan) m above MSL. The slope of the ground
is generally Falling from Kalol to Katosan Raod.

2.3 The Project alignment starts from Kalol (Excluding) and ends at Katosan Road Station
(Excluding) connecting 03 number of Block Sections. The alignment passes mostly
through plain terrain. The existing railway track is designed for the maximum
permissible speed of 110 KMPH for passenger services and an axle load of MBG/GC
loading for freight traffic.

2.4 The total length of the proposed route, from centre of Kalol (Ch.:0.00) to centre of
Katosan Road (Ch.: 37.23 Km).

2.5 The proposed alignment of is planned as Gauge Convesrion and come alteration at Kalol
(Ch.:0.00) to Dead End of Katosan Road (Ch.: 37.23 Km) towards Kalol.

4 Site Particulars
4.1 Methodology for Investigation

Detailed field work has been performed by Western Railway along the proposed
alignment keeping in view the land availability.

Index section & plan for the entire route have been prepared based on the assessment
of levels by using levels of existing line and field work.

The concept plans for the station yards have been prepared are indicative for
reference use only. The quantity of earthwork and land requirement has been worked
out roughly based on the land plans, Index sections & index plans.

Bridge proposals for Major bridges and Minor bridges have been finalized on the basis
of existing bridges on route.

7 no existing bridges including 2 Major bridges are retained being constructed with
MBG loading. Load test as per railway specification will have to be carried out as per
requirement of Railway for 25T loading confirmation. No extra payment will be made
for the same.

4.2 Seismic Disturbances - The area of the Project falls under Seismic zone III.

4.3 Climate - Gujarat State has a subtropical climate. Like most of north India, it has a hot
dry summer mid of March to June end, followed by monsoon rains (June end week –
September) and relatively dry winter. Gujarat receives a decent amount of rain fall with
an average of 146 mm during 2021 across the three districts viz Ahmedabad and
Mahesana.

4.4 Means of Communication - The project area is well connected with State Highway
Road. A large number of feeder roads exists which will be helpful to connect various
points on the project line. The area is well connected with telephone signal and
internet network availability also.

4.5 Outline of Civil Administration - The entire project is covered under the jurisdiction of
Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway, covering with 03 district of Gujarat State are
Ahmedabad, Gandhinager and Mahesana.
