REPORT ON ENERGY EFFECIENCY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS

Solar energy conversion efficiency is of significant importance due to

environmental protection benefits of alternate energy sources. For its outstanding
mechanical properties, diamond is being considered as a first wall material. Fusion
reaction converts energy into narrow bandwidth spectrum by diamond wall which
is then transformed into broad spectrum and converted by photovoltaic cells into
electricity.
Weather conditions effect significantly the energy conversion efficiency of
photovoltaic thermal system. Experimental study of seasonal variation like cold,
warm and hot was done. It revealed that optimum thermal energy can be achieved
by maximizing coverage area. Various Models for suitable Coverage ratio have been
simulated in the study
Addition of nanoparticles composed of Samarium mixed zinc spinel ferrite
nanoparticles (fabricated by precipitation method) increased the light absorption
capability of PVC (Photo Voltaic Cell). It was maximum at Samarium contents of
(x=1.50). Paper revealed the competency of such rare earth metals in energy
efficiency of PVC.
Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), a photo anode when introduced with nanostructured silver
wires and was replaced to assemble dyesentisized solar cells (DSSCs). Simulations
revealed AgNW@TiO2 to be effective in enhancing the light harvesting efficiency as
it accelerated electron transport and also charge collection efficiency of DSSCs.
Power conversion increased by 2.7%.
Spectral analysis of inversion layer solar cells (MIS-IL) describes the effect of short
wavelength radiations on energy efficiency. The IL Cell has better collection
response to ultraviolet light as compared to conventional p-n junction cells. Light
absorption property of silicon in solar cells is dependent on wavelength of light. In
this prospective IL solar cells are of significant importance.
Light redirecting prismatic panels decrease direct solar radiation to great extent.
Such panels are manufactured for high solar altitude regions ranging from 50 to 80
degree. This paper presented a mathematical model for redirecting light through
the prismatic model for calculated amount of radiations to pass into a workspace
in summer. Sun’s position and material’s refractive index are the chosen for the
specific region under study. Surface’s tilt angle along with above two is control
variable for the proposed model.
