Course description
This course will navigate the enormous field of cell biology by dividing it into four
sections: the central dogma; cellular organization & structure; signal transduction; and
metabolism. Special attention will be paid to discussing cell biological techniques and
emphasizing the impact of cell biology on industry, agriculture, biotechnology and
medicine.

Grading
3 Exams (Sept 23rd, Oct 28th and TBA during finals week) 90 points each
Clicker Questions 30 points*
Biology Knowledge Survey (taken during the last day of class) Mandatory
Total Points: 300

100 > A > 90 89.9 > B > 80 79.9 > C > 70 69.9 > D > 60 59.9 > F

*Participation in >90.0% of class lecture days = 30 points,

89.9-80.0% = 20 points,
79.9-70.0% = 10 points,
<69.9% = 0 points.
You must be present for more than 75% of clicker questions for any given day to receive
credit for that day.

Academic Dishonesty
Violation of the UCCS Academic Honor Code (www.uccs.edu/~dos/studentconduct/academicdishonesty.html) will
not be tolerated. Those who use dishonesty for the purpose of boosting an exam score will
automatically lose 50% of total exam points.
Missed quizzes and exams
1) An illness, personal emergency or a University-related function is the only acceptable
excuse for missing an exam or quiz. You must have verifiable written proof in order to
make up an exam.
2) Any absence from an exam without a documented excuse will result in a grade of zero.
American Disabilities Act
Students needing academic adjustments or accommodations because of a documented
disability must give to their instructor a letter of accommodation from the Coordinator of
Supplemental Services within the first two weeks of the semester.
