Case study: The provision of leisure activities for younger people in

rural areas
Question 1:
Ans: working party members were disappointed because they thought that they were not any
closer to finding out what would capture interest of town’s young people and reduce boredom.

Question 2(a):
Ans: objective 1 is addressed by question 1 to 6 and objective 2 is addressed by question 3, 4, 7
and 8. Moreover, objective 3 is addressed by question 7 and objective 4 is addressed by whole
survey questionnaire.
Question 2(b):
Ans: For information about respondents’ characteristics and attitudes, this question can be
added: “How many hours of spare time do you have in day?” For respondent’s opinion, this
question can be added to survey questionnaire: “In your opinion, do you think there are enough
leisure activities for youths in your town? If not, then why?”

Question 3:
Ans: More alternative answers could have been added in Q1, in order to address all the age
groups targeted in this questionnaire. There is clear gender bias in choices provided in Question
2 and 3 as majority of choices are more preferred by males than females; therefore, female
related sports activities could have been added in these questions to address both male and
female. The survey would have been better if question 4 came at end of survey to allow
respondents to think of leisure activities that questionnaire has failed to mention. Question 8
should be made correct as it is vague to readers. Question 9 should come at beginning of survey
questionnaire.

Question 4:
Ans: In case study, survey was pilot tested by 5 members of local youth club; however, survey
was not pilot tested by enough people and also it may have been pilot tested by wrong people. It
did not go in depth with different situations, ethnicity, attitudes and practices; which can
contribute to overall picture. Therefore, it should be pilot tested by enough people to look at big
picture.

Question 5:
Ans: No, postal questionnaire is not reliable/best data collection method because of following:
Confidentiality: respondents do not have chance to stay anonymous as surveys were sent by post.
Unreliable: you would never be sure who is filling out the questionnaire with postal
questionnaire.
