am very picky about where I take my poodle for grooming, and I'm
glad I brought her here. She came out looking fresh and fluffy. The
customer service was great and friendly, will come back!
Silly Sports: Can you really call this a sport?

Extreme ironing
According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau, this is “the latest danger
sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the
satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.” The competitors call themselves
“ironists” and go to dangerous or remote places with a board
to do the ironing. The activities may include ironing underwater,
on top of a mountain, in moving vehicles, in a canoe, in the middle
of a busy street, while skiing, skydiving, or snowboarding.

Wife-carrying
The sport of wife-carrying was born in the small town of Sonkajarvi
in Finland. Male competitors race while each carrying their wives
on their backs through an obstacle course. The history of wife-
carrying is based on the 19th-century legend of Ronkainen the
Robber. According to one of the versions, Ronkainen the Robber
and the members of his gang were stealing food and women from
neighboring villages carrying them over their shoulders as they ran
away. Wife-Carrying World Championships are held annually
in Finland and the winner receives the equivalent of his wife’s weight
in beer.

Bamboo drift racing

Single bamboo drift racing is a popular sport in Southwest China’s
Guizhou province. The competitors stand on an approximately 23 ft
long bamboo pole and use a thin stick of bamboo as an oar. Initially,
bamboo drifting wasn’t a sport but a means of transportation
in China. Nowadays, the bamboo is often replaced by a similar-
looking green fiberglass poles that are more durable.

Toe wrestling
This unusual sport involves 2 competitors trying to pin down each
other’s foot to the ground for at least 3 seconds. There are 3 rounds
that are played first with the right foot, then with the left one. This
strange sport dates back to 1976 when a group of people living
in Staffordshire were trying to think of a sport that only the British
could win.
Modern marriage: Till de-glitching does us part
The young have re-booted marriage for the modern generation,
to be beta-tested, learnt from and discarded. But isn’t
permanence the whole point?

it seems that Generation Y has mistakenly taken its inspiration for

matrimony from the short-lived marriages of Hollywood celebrities.
Although many of them are in happy relationships now, their early
attempts at marriage were famed for their brevity. Take Angelina
Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton – they managed two years. Kim
Kardashian and Kris Humphries lasted three. Renée Zellweger and
Kenny Chesney quit after six months. Till death do us part has been
rewritten for the millennial generation: you either like it or leg it.

Perhaps the best advice for our young brides-and-grooms-to-be

comes from screen legend Paul Newman – famously married for 50
years to Joanne Woodward – who said: “We are very, very different
people and yet somehow we fed off those varied differences and,
instead of separating us, it has made the whole bond a lot stronger.”
There you have it: beta-testing for life which can benefit the whole
marriage. Not just one picky half of it.

The young and in love now want to beta-test their marriage in much
the same way as software is put through a last stage of testing
before release. In the spirit of all things digital, marriage is seen as
an iterative experience, where you learn what you can, adapt, then
nimbly move on.

According to a new US survey reported in Time magazine, 43 per

cent of millennials – those aged 18 to 34 – said they would support a
marriage model that involved a two-year trial, at which point the
union could be either formalised (like a decree nisi but in reverse) or
dissolved, with no divorce required.
Is shopping your drug of choice? Shopping addiction can
be a serious and destructive behavioral health addiction.

Although it has been documented in medical journals for more than

100 years, the American Psychiatric Association does not officially
recognize shopping addiction in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
for Mental Health Disorders (DSM-5). Researchers and clinicians
continue to debate the best way to classify compulsive and
excessive shopping—whether as an addictive, obsessive-
compulsive, impulse-control, or mood disorder. They also continue
to debate the name of this disorder, so you may hear it
called shopping addiction, compulsive buying
disorder, shopaholism, compulsive shopping, compulsive
consumption, impulsive buying, or compulsive spending. 1

She says she's not a shopaholic - 'I'm in control of how much I

spend; I know how much is on my credit card, when to pay it off and
when to stop' - even though her latest spree makes her look slightly
like one. But how can you tell if you are addicted to shopping?

'Just because you like buying clothes, doesn't make you a shopping
addict,' says Professor Alexander Gardner, a consumer psychologist
and member of the British Psychological Association, reassuringly.
'Someone like Victoria Beckham can spend a lot, but that doesn't
mean she's addicted, it just means she enjoys it - mainly because
she can afford everything. Everyone gets a kick out of shopping.'
True - retail therapy is the ultimate escape. A bad day translates into
a new pair of shoes, while a good day justifies treating yourself 'just
because'.

Shoplifting: Why is the price tag still on your hat?
Why do you think about shoplifting?
Well, I think that shoplifting is system that they use to take
something that doesn’t belong to you. For example if you have
something here, like a book and I take it without your authorization
that’s shoplifting. Especially in a store or shop.
Why do you think people do it?
It is bad to steal, because you are taking something that does not
belong to you and that you know that it can also have concessions.
Do you think that only poor people do it?
Not only the poor people do it, but the rich people also do it. The
only difference is the poor people do it without any knowledge, I
mean, they do it, but they never change their life. And the rich
people do it to become richer.
Tell us more about it
It is bad to steal because people are being harmed, people who
steal out of necessity need it but if it is because people are hurt. ... -
When someone steals an ATM, it is a robbery without any need,
because that person steals to satisfy himself.
