Self-Study Project Final Reflection

In this Ling 12 course, I have finished four tutorial assignments from the book Language

Power. All of them are extremely helpful for my writing skill improving. For the first one, I

chose Tutorial 6: Writing Style and Lexical variety as my topic. In that tutorial assignment, I

found out the differences among different writing styles and knew how to make better word

choice. Those significantly helped me to make a better essay in my writing project 1, about

writing a narrative story. I used the skills to write informal stories and to build better word

coalitions into my article. Besides, I chose to learn about Tutorial 12: Inaccurate Word

Choice, because you pointed out that my word-choice still have some problems after writing

the first essay. In this case, I further understood how to use some unusual words in correct

ways, and applied it into my business letter, which was utterly formal writing with some

infrequently-used words. Then, I made Tutorial 20: Subject-Verb Agreement as my third

topic, because I usually make this type of problems. This tutorial specifically pointed out the

times to follow the subject-verb agreement rule and helped me to check out lots of issues I

caused in my writing project two about not in subject-verb agreement. Finally, after writing

the final draft of my writing project 2, I made the Tutorial 24: Verb Phrases, because my

examples in writing project 2 was in the past, which is not the same timeline with my whole

essay. It’s common to make mistakes here, so I used skills learned from here to make the

checks. After finishing all of these Self-Study Tutorial assignments, I find that those skills

help me a lot in my writing projects, and that shows their values. As a result, I will continue

using these Language Power to be my text for learning in the rest of my writing courses.
