1. This is part of a letter you receive from an English friend.

I love playing sport in my free


time. What’s your favourite sport
and why? How do you play it?

READ THE TASK QUESTION VERY CAREFULLY. YOU NEED TO ANSWER ALL
PARTS OF THE QUESTION!!!

1. Underline the parts of the question you need to answer

2. Use an opener:
a) Dear/ Hi/ Hello + Name,

b) Thanks for your letter. It was great to hear from you.

c) Read the task question and refer to their question in your


letter:
You asked me what my favourite sport is.
(affirmative sentence word order not you asked me what is my favourite sport.

3. Use adverbs and adjectives


I really/ absolutely love playing badminton. It’s an exciting sport which makes
me relaxed.

4. Use a variety of tenses to show what you can do.

5. Use the passive. E.g.) Football is played in teams


6. Use a variety of vocabulary to make your writing interesting.

7. At the end of your letter ask your friend a question related to


the same topic ( – it makes your letter more natural. )
For example: How often do you play sport? Where do you usually play? Etc.

8. Use a closer:
Write back soon/ I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
