PANAY ISLAND

Panay Island is part of the Western Visayas Region and is comprised of five (5) provinces namely Aklan,
Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and Guimaras.

Arts and Crafts Antique Forest Products include bamboo, rattan, buri, bariw, nilo, log, charcoal, abaca,
herbal vines and plants, wild flowers and others. Rattan craft is a large industry in the area:
In Capiz, know for its capiz shells being produced in this province. Used for making windows, lanterns,
decorations, vases. While in Iloilo, Patadyong is a time honored industry of weaving wrap around cloths
worn by women which features linear and domestic designs.
In Guimaras, a lot of towns in the Western Visayas displayed thru cultural heritages thru indigenous
crafts, native recipes and others. Such as hablon and patadyong of Miag-ao, fishing gears and traps, and
bulong bulong of Guimbal, bamboo crafts of Maasin, basket, bag and mat of Patnongon, Antique.
Among others back year industries include coconut shell crafts, metal art, miniature boat, pottery and
clay.
