STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE FOR
HYDRAULIC DESIGN OF PARSHALL
FLUMES
STEP-I:
Collect Field Data i.e.,
Discharge to be measured (Q)
Normal depth of flow in the Canal (dn)
Free boad available (f)
Bed Width of Channel (b)
STEP - II:
The most economical throat width for
flume may be taken as 1/3 to 1/2 the bed
width of the channel (b/3 to b/2) and for
convenience to suit the site conditions,
some value between (b/3 to b/2) may be
chosen and tried.
STEP - III:
For the given discharge Q and for the
selection width of flume, find out ha from
the concern tables for free flow condition
(tables).
STEP-IV:
For the chosen throat width in Step II
read modular limit for free flow
conditions from table.
STEP-V:
Calculate hb from the equation
hb/ha = M.L.
