Warmup – Active stretch (w/modelling):
 Neck: head nod, front roll, side-to-side, side-to-side with arm twist
 Arms: across and out, arms circles, behind the head, twists
 Back: side-to-side, roll front, hip circles, hip 8s
 Legs: leg circles in/out, butt kickers, front kicks, calf raises, ankles and wrists

During warmup – Discussion of Zumba


 Does anyone know what Zumba is/has done Zumba? Does anyone have family that does Zumba? What kind of
movements?
 Zumba is Latin-inspired from Columbia. It started in the 1990’s and it involves hip-hop, samba, salsa, Cumbia,
reggaeton, martial arts, Bollywood, belly dancing, etc. Zumba developed out of improvising, an instructor forgot
the equipment he needed for fitness class and decided to use some music from his car which happened to be
Latin salsa.

Basic salsa steps –
 Basic front step: ‘1-2-3 count’
 Basic back step, hip, arms

Cumbia

Zumba moves
