Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Engagement
Motivation/Review
Good morning class! Good morning too Ma’am!

Who among of you loves to watch the (raising hands)

sky during the night?

Who among of you loves stargazing? Ma’am!

Do you know that stars are also Yes Ma’am!
arranged in groups?

Now I want you to pay attention on this Yes Ma’am!

video and take down notes. I want you
to observe carefully because I will ask
several questions afterwards.

(showing video)

Now what have you seen from the Ma’am!

videos?
Group of stars Ma’am.
Yes Mr. Aguda?
Ma’am!
Very Good, and what do you call these
group of stars?
Constellation ma’am.
Yes Ms Unciano?
The Orion Ma’am.
What are the constellations you know?
The Pegasus Ma’am!
Very Good! Another?
Yes Ma’am!
Absolutely! Did you know that your
Zodiac Signs are also a Constellation?
Ma’am, Aquarius!
What are your Zodiac Signs?
Gemini Ma’am!
How about you Ms. Lagula?

B. Exploration
***Advance Preparation (to be done a
day before the science class)

Now let’s have 12 groups for this Yes Ma’am!

exciting activity class. Remember the
card I gave you a while back?
I want you to group yourselves (moving to their respective groups)
according to the Zodiac signs you are
holding.

I have here a Planisphere. It is a very

useful device. A polar projection of the
celestial sphere and the stars on a plane
with adjustable circles showing celestial
phenomena for any given time.

So on this activity, you will use a

planisphere, and I’ll be giving
planispheres to each group.

Activity # 1
Constellations

Date of Observation: __________________ Location:

___________________________
Names: ________________________ _________________________
_________________________ _________________________

A. How to use the Planisphere

1. Swivel the star map around to line up the date and the time to the day
you are outside.
2. Identify where North and South are on the planisphere. Then you need
a compass to identify where North /South is outside.
3. Stand facing South, looking down at the planisphere so that North is at
the top facing away from you.
4. Lift the Planisphere above your head and the white disk area will show
you the stars in the night sky.
5. Use your planisphere as a guide to find the brightest stars.

B. Use the Table to list down the most observed constellations during your
observation.

Constellation Time Observed

C. Analysis
1. Enumerate your observations on the positions of the constellations as
it changes in the course of night.
C. Explanation
How far have you gone with your
activity?

I will give you 5 minutes to brainstorm

and finalize your presentation before I’ll Yes ma’am
ask the representatives to talk in front.
Understood? (after presentation)

Let’s have your presentation of data and

observations from your activity. Very exciting Ma’am!

Did you enjoy the activity? Ma’am!

What are the most observed

constellations in your place? The Cygnus Ma’am.

Yes Ms. Mallabo?

Very Good! 

D. Elaboration/Extension/BIT

Did you observe that the position of a Yes Ma’am

constellation changes in the course of a
night?

True or False: Ma’am! (raising hands)

The arrangement of the stars/
constellations does not change

Yes Ms. Callo? True Ma’am.

Then why does it looks like changing in Ma’am?

position every now and then?

Yes Ms. Abella? This is because of the earth’s rotation

as it revolves around the sun ma’am.

Precisely!

E. Evaluation
