POLICE VERSUS STATE TROOPER 1

Abstract

Local Police Officers and State Troopers may seem different, but they both enforce the law and

protect the citizens with the same procedures. They share similar functions and training

requirements. State Patrol and State Police are given general authority across the entire state,

whereas State Troopers are known as high-profile federal agents.

Police are usually general-purpose law enforcement officers. They are most often employed by a

city government but may be employed by a county, state, college, with the authority to create a

law enforcement branch.

State troopers have the authority to conduct law enforcement activities and criminal

investigations. They perform outside the jurisdiction of the County Sheriff, such as enforcing

traffic laws on state highways and interstate expressways and overseeing the Security of the State

Capitol complex protecting the Governor. Although police and state troopers are different in

some ways, both have the same goal, which is to help and protect the community and help keep

everyone safe in any way they can.
