Band 2: Notetakers

Responsibilities:

This support is provided for students who require notes to be taken on their behalf,
for example because they have a physical impairment. The activity of note-taking is
to produce an accurate record of the content of lectures, seminars, discussions, off-
campus events etc. in the student’s preferred style and format.

Skills required:

Clear and legible handwriting at speed if providing handwritten notes; accurate


spelling and grammar skills; familiarity with subject specific vocabulary and technical
language; and disability awareness.

Qualifications/training:

A Level 2 qualification in notetaking is required or training provided by an institution


from a suitably qualified trainer. A standard of education to at least second year
degree level is expected, the undertaking and completion of specialist notetaker
training (may be in-house training) which includes the formal assessment and
evaluation of skills and suitability, the successful achievement of that assessment
and evaluation.
