POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE USES AND EFFECTS OF YOUTUBE 1

Abstract

YouTube was created in 2005 and has been becoming increasingly more influential to society.

The site is used in many versatile and innovative ways, some of these including politics,

learning, and music. However, it can easily be used as a weapon to attack others and is

controversial in many ways. Many creators receive a large number of positive responses to their

videos, but they also receive a significant amount of hateful comments and responses. Politicians

can use YouTube to broaden their platform, but this may lead to opposite views fighting in the

comments. Musicians can use YouTube to share their voice and music and become discovered

by record labels but receive hateful comments from those who might not like them. The social

media giant has changed society drastically both positively and negatively, so it is difficult to

prove whether it is good or bad for society. However, it is clear that YouTube is essential to

society and will continue to be alongside other platforms and technology.
