1. Dïng both, neither & either khi ta nãi vÒ hai sù viÖc. Cã thÓ dïng c¸c tõ nµy
víi Danh tõ.
- Both restaurants are very good. ( C¶ hai kh¸ch s¹n ®ã ®Òu tèt).
- Neither restaurant is expensive. ( Ch¼ng c¸i nhµ hµng nµo trong 2 c¸i ®¾t tiÒn
c¶)
- We can go either restaurant. I don't mind. (= Chóng ta cã thÓ ®Õn c¸i nµo
trong hai c¸i còng ®îc) (either= c¸i nµy hay c¸i kia còng ®îc, kh«ng thµnh vÊn ®Ò).
2. Cã thÓ dïng both/neither/either víi of. Khi dïng víi of nhÊt thiÕt ph¶i dïng the/
these/ those/ my/ your/ his/ her...
- Both of these restaurants are very good.
- Neither of the restaurants we went to was/were expensive.
- We can go to either of those restaurants. I don't mind.
* Víi both ta cã thÓ bá of. V× vËy thay v× nãi: Both of my parents are kind ta cã
thÓ nãi: Both my parents are kind.
3. Sau both of/ neither of/ either of ta cã thÓ dïng us/ you/ them:
- Can either of them/you speak English? (Cã ai trong sè hä/ c¸c b¹n cã thÓ nãi.....)
- I wanted Tom and Ann to come but neither of them wanted to.
* B¹n b¾t buéc ph¶i ®Ó "both of" tríc us/you/them:
- Both of us were very tired. ( kh«ng nãi both us).
4. Sau neither of... ta cã thÓ dïng Verb sè Ýt hoÆc sè nhiÒu.
- Neither of the children wants/ want to go to bed.
- Neither of us is/are married.
5. Ta cã thÓ nãi both...and..., neither...nor...,either....or:
- Both Jim and Marry were late.
- They were both tired and hungry.
- He said he could contact me but he neither wrote nor phoned.( ...ch¼ng viÕt
còng ch¼ng gäi ®iÖn)
- Either you apologise or I'll never speak to you again. ( hoÆc anh ph¶i xin lçi
hoÆc t«i sÏ kh«ng bao giê nãi chuyÖn víi anh n÷a.)
6. Ta còng cã thÓ dïng both/ neither/ either mét m×nh:
- Is he British or American?- Neither. He is Australian.
- I couldn't decide which one to choose. I like both.
7. Neither víi nghÜa 'còng vËy':
- Dïng trong trong trêng hîp khi tríc nã lµ mét c©u mang nghÜa phñ ®Þnh.
- My father never read newspapers. 'Neither do I'.
- My mother can't remember his name. ' Neither can I'
- She didn't do the test well. 'Neither did I'

- Special verbs: to be, have; Modal verbs: Can, could, may, might,will

- Neither = not ......either. (She liked neither of them=She didn't like either of
them)

8. So víi nghÜa 'còng vËy':

- I am feeling tired. 'So am I'
- I passed the exam and so did Tom.
