Stress Analysis Using ANSYS workbench

Subhaish Das 2013ME10729

The steps taken can be listed as follows:
1. Defining the analysis type
2. Defining the material model
3. Defining the geometry in Design Modeler
4. Defining the mesh model.
5. Defining the boundary conditions of the problem,
support, etc.
6. Defining the applied loads.
7. Defining the type of solution required eg equivalent
stress, deformation, etc.
8. Obtaining the solution.

A completed model in Design Modeler is shown above.

First window for Ansys Workbench. We have to drag and drop the static
structural analysis module for our purpose

This is the window for entering the material properties of the material.
Values for mild steel are entered by default. We change the units to
Mpa for consistency.

Conclusion of the Analysis

For the above mentioned bracket dimensions we obtain the

following values:
 Load for Fos 2 = 6800 N ( FoS = 2.01 )
 Maximum equivalent stress for empty bucket = 44.799 Mpa
 Maximum deformation along loading direction = 0.026153 mm
 Maximum amount of coal it can carry for FoS 2 = 887.755 Kg

For changing dimensions to t1 = 30 mm t2 = 50 mm:

 Load for FoS 2 = 13600 N (FoS = 2.00)
 Maximum equivalent stress for empty bucket = 22.445 Mpa
 Maximum amount of coal it can carry for FoS 2 = 2275.51 Kg
 Change in mass of coal that can be carried = 1387.755 Kg
