Detailed Lesson Plan in Mapeh (Music) 5

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:

a. Identify the main woodwind instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, English horn, bassoon
b. Listen to the sounds of the various woodwind instruments and differentiate the sound
of each instruments
c. Explore information on the woodwinds family and value its sounds to a musical
harmony.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

TOPIC : Instruments of the Woodwind Family


REFERENCE : Mapeh adventures 5 pg. 95 -97
MATERIALS : Pictures, Visual Aids, Speakers, cellphone and etc. PowerPoint Presentation

is all about the “Instruments of the Woodwind
Family”

b. Presentation
 The members of the woodwind family
of the orchestra are: flute, oboe,
clarinet, bassoon, and English horn

instruments sir!

APPLICATION
c. Discussion

 Flute- it the only woodwind


instruments that has no separate
mouthpiece. Today’s flute is the
transverse flute that is held
horizontally.

 Clarinet- has a beaked mouthpiece with


a single seed attached to it. The
clarinet can make low sounds. A
clarinet may play alone in a small group
or in an orchestra.

 Oboe- is made of wood and sound is


produce by a musician blowing through
a small passage between two reeds.
The tone color produced is nasal,
plaintive and nostalgic. The oboe is a
little more than 2 feet long.

 Bassoon- is all about nine feet long if it


were straightened out. The tone is low
and thick. It is also known as the
“clown” of the orchestra because of
the tones it can produce.

 English horn- is also known as the Cor


Anglais. It is not a horn but a longer
oboe. The tone it produces is smooth
and rich

 We are going to play sound guessing


and identifying the pictures itself.

 Listen to the sound and identify what


kind of woodwind instruments it is.
