A Report on Industrial Visit at Kolaghat Thermal Power

station on 28th June 2017, by EIE department, GNIT

An Industrial visit was arranged for the students of EIE (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering),
GNIT, on 28th June 2017, at Kolaghat Thermal Power Station, WBPDCL. After getting the confirmation from Mr.
Tirthankar Chakraborty, Manager (HR&A), Kolaghat Thermal Power Station,WBPDCL, the entire team guided by
four faculty members Mrs. Bapita Roy, Head of the department, EIE; Mrs. Sanghamitra Layek, Asst. Prof.; Mrs.
Suparna Maity, Asst. Prof.; Mrs. Santana Das, Asst. Prof. started from the college at 8 a.m. on that day by bus,
accompanied by Mrs. Pamela Chatterjee, Manager Industry Alliance, GNIT Training and Placement Cell. After
reaching KTPS, the students were subdivided into three groups and the shift Engineers of KTPS, WBPDCL were
demonstrated the different sections inside the plant. KTPS is Coal fired thermal power Plant, consisting of 6 Units of
210 MW each. Installed capacity:210MW x 3 (Stage-1) and 210MW x 3 (Stage-2). Ash is disposed to total 6 Nos of
Ash ponds. In the first half the Mechanical section including Boiler , furnace section , turbine section, pulverizer ,
ID fan, FD fan etc. and in the second half the Electrical section including control room, switchyard and the DM
plant were demonstrated very nicely by the Shift Engineers. This visit helped the students to gain experience of
how industry operations are executed. It bridge the gap between theoretical training and practical learning in a real-
life environment. Students became more aware of industry practices and regulations during industry visits. It was
an informative, interesting and a successful visit. We are thankful to our management to support us to make the visit
a grand success. A heartiest thank to our Principal Sir, Prof. Dr. Santanu Kr. Sen to help us and inspire us for
conducting such an Educational visit.
