1:1 ‫אׁשית‬
ִ ‫ְּב ֵר‬ ‫ָּב ָרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫אֵ ת א‬ ‫ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ְואֵ ת‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ :
1
. In the beginning God
b·rashith bra aleim ath e·shmim u·ath e·artz : created the heaven and the
in·beginning he-created Elohim » the·heavens and·» the·earth earth.

1:2 ‫האָ ֶרץ‬

ָ ‫ְו‬ ‫ָהיְ ָתה‬ ‫תֹהּו‬ ‫ָובֹהּו‬  ֶ‫ְוחֹׁש‬ ‫עַ ל‬ ‫ְּפנֵי ־‬ ‫ְתה ם‬

And the earth was without
u·e·artz eithe theu u·beu u·chshk ol - phni theum form, and void; and
and·the·earth she-became chaos and·vacancy and·darkness over surfaces-of abyss darkness [was] upon the
face of the deep. And the
‫רּוח‬
ַ ‫ְו‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫ְמ ַר ֶחפֶ ת א‬ ‫עַ ל‬ ‫ְּפנֵי ־‬ ‫ַה ָּמיִ ם‬ : Spirit of God moved upon
the face of the waters.

1:3 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫יְ ִהי א‬ ‫אר‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫אר ־‬ :

. And God said, Let there
u·iamr aleim iei aur u·iei - aur : be light: and there was light.
and·he-is-saying Elohim he-shall-become light and·he-is-becoming light

1:4 ‫ַוּי ְַרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ִ ‫ָהא ר ־ אֶ ת א‬ ‫ִּכי‬ ‫טב ־‬ ‫ַוּי ְַב ֵּדל‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫ֵּבין א‬

And God saw the light,
u·ira aleim ath - e·aur ki - tub u·ibdl aleim bin that [it was] good: and God
and·he-is-seeing Elohim » the·light that good and·he-is-cseparating Elohim between divided the light from the
darkness.
‫ָהא ר‬ ‫ּובין‬
ֵ  ֶ‫ַהחֹׁש‬ :

1:5 ‫וַּיִ ְק ָרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ִ ‫לָ א ר א‬ ‫ים‬  ֶ‫ְולַ חֹׁש‬ ‫ָק ָרא‬ ‫לָ יְ לָ ה‬

And God called the light
u·iqra aleim l·aur ium u·l·chshk qra lile Day, and the darkness he
and·he-is-calling Elohim to·the·light day and·to·the·darkness he-calls night called Night. And the
evening and the morning
‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫עֶ ֶרב ־‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ֹקר ־‬
ֶ ‫ב‬ ‫ים‬ ‫ אֶ ָחד‬: ‫פ‬ were the first day.

ַ ‫ָר ִק‬  ‫ְּבת‬ ‫ַה ָּמיִ ם‬ ‫יהי‬
ִ ‫ִו‬

. And God said, Let there

and·he-is-saying Elohim he-shall-become atmosphere in·midst-of the·waters and·he-shall-become of the waters, and let it
divide the waters from the
‫ַמ ְב ִּדיל‬ ‫ֵּבין‬ ‫ַמיִ ם‬ ‫לָ ָמיִ ם‬ : waters.

1:7 ‫ַוּיַעַ ׂש‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ַ ‫ָה ָר ִק‬ ‫ַוּי ְַב ֵּדל‬ ‫ֵּבין‬ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬

And God made the

the firmament from the
‫ִמ ַּת ַחת‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫לָ ָר ִק‬ ‫ּובין‬
ֵ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ֵמעַ ל‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫לָ ָר ִק‬ waters which [were] above
the firmament: and it was
m·thchth l·rqio u·bin e·mim ashr m·ol l·rqio
so.
from·under to·the·atmosphere and·between the·waters which from·on to·the·atmosphere

‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ כֵ ן ־‬:

1:8 ‫וַּיִ ְק ָרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ִ ‫יע א‬
ַ ‫לָ ָר ִק‬ ‫ׁשָ ָמיִ ם‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫עֶ ֶרב ־‬

And God called the

. And God said, Let the

and·he-is-saying Elohim they-shall-be-flown-together the·waters from·under the·heavens to gathered together unto one
place, and let the dry [land]
‫ָמק ם‬ ‫ְו ֵת ָראֶ ה אֶ ָחד‬ ‫ַּבׁשָ ה‬
ָ ‫ַהּי‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ כֵ ן ־‬: appear: and it was so.

ְ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬ ‫ָק ָרא‬ ‫י ִַּמים‬

And God called the dry
u·iqra aleim l·ibshe artz u·l·mque e·mim qra imim [land] Earth; and the
and·he-is-calling Elohim to·the·dry land and·to·confluence-of the·waters he-called seas gathering together of the
waters called he Seas: and
‫ַוּי ְַרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫ִּכי א‬ ‫ טב ־‬: God saw that [it was] good.

ִ ‫ַּת ְדׁשֵ א א‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫ֶּדׁשֶ א‬ ‫עֵ ׂשֶ ב‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫ַמזְ ִר‬

And God said, Let the
u·iamr aleim thdsha e·artz dsha oshb mzrio earth bring forth grass, the
and·he-is-saying Elohim she-shall-cause-to-vegetate the·land vegetation herbage csowing herb yielding seed, [and] the
fruit tree yielding fruit after
‫ז ֶַרע‬ ‫עֵ ץ‬ ‫ְּפ ִרי‬ ‫עֹ ׂשֶ ה‬ ‫ְּפ ִרי‬ ‫ְל ִמינ‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ז ְַרע‬ ‫ב ־‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־ עַ ל‬ his kind, whose seed [is] in
itself, upon the earth: and it

was so.

1:12 ‫וַּת צֵ א‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫ֶּדׁשֶ א‬ ‫עֵ ׂשֶ ב‬ ‫יע‬

ַ ‫ַמזְ ִר‬ ‫ז ֶַרע‬ ‫ְל ִמינֵהּו‬

And the earth brought
u·thutza e·artz dsha oshb mzrio zro l·min·eu forth grass, [and] herb
and·she-is-cbringing-forth the·land vegetation herbage csowing seed to·species-of·him yielding seed after his kind,
and the tree yielding fruit,
‫ְועֵ ץ‬ ‫עֹ ׂשֶ ה‬ ‫ְּפ ִרי ־‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ז ְַרע‬ ‫ב ־‬ ‫ְל ִמינֵהּו‬ ‫ַוּי ְַרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫א‬ whose seed [was] in itself,
after his kind: and God saw
u·otz oshe - phri ashr zro·u - b·u l·min·eu u·ira aleim
that [it was] good.
and·tree makingdo fruit which seed-of·him in·him to·species-of·him and·he-is-seeing Elohim

And the evening and the

1:14 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫יְ ִהי א‬ ‫ארֹת‬
ֹ ‫ְמ‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫ִּב ְר ִק‬ ‫ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬

. And God said, Let there
u·iamr aleim iei marth b·rqio e·shmim be lights in the firmament of
and·he-is-saying Elohim he-shall-become luminaries in·atmosphere-of the·heavens the heaven to divide the day
from the night; and let them
‫ְל ַה ְב ִּדיל‬ ‫ֵּבין‬ ‫ַהּי ם‬ ‫ּובין‬
ֵ ‫ַהּלָ יְ לָ ה‬ ‫ְו ָהיּו‬ ‫אתֹת‬
ֹ ‫ְל‬ be for signs, and for
seasons, and for days, and
l·ebdil bin e·ium u·bin e·lile u·eiu l·athth
years:
to·to-cseparate-of between the·day and·between the·night and·they-become for·signs

‫ּולמ ע ֲִדים‬
ְ ‫ּולי ִָמים‬
ְ ‫ְוׁשָ נִ ים‬ :

and·for·appointments and·for·days and·years

1:15 ‫היּו‬
ָ ‫ְו‬ ‫ִל ְמא רֹת‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫ִּב ְר ִק‬ ‫ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ְל ָה ִאיר‬ ‫־ עַ ל‬

And let them be for
u·eiu l·maurth b·rqio e·shmim l·eair ol - lights in the firmament of
and·they-become for·luminaries in·atmosphere-of the·heavens to·to-cgive-light-of on the heaven to give light
upon the earth: and it was
‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ כֵ ן ־‬: so.

1:16 ‫ַוּיַעַ ׂש‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ִ ‫ְׁשנֵי ־ אֶ ת א‬ ‫ארֹת‬

ִ ‫ַהּגְ ד‬ ‫ַה ָּמא ר ־ אֶ ת‬

And God made two great

and·he-is-makingdo Elohim » two-of the·luminaries the·great-ones » the·luminary rule the day, and the lesser
light to rule the night: [he
‫ַה ָּגדֹל‬ ‫ְל ֶמ ְמׁשֶ לֶ ת‬ ‫ַהּי ם‬ ‫ְואֶ ת‬ ‫ַה ָּמא ר ־‬ ‫טן‬
ֹ ‫ַה ָּק‬ ‫ְל ֶמ ְמׁשֶ לֶ ת‬ ‫ַהּלַ יְ לָ ה‬ ‫ְואֵ ת‬ made] the stars also.

And God set them in the

And to rule over the day

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫יִ ְׁש ְרצּו א‬ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬ ‫ׁשֶ ֶרץ‬ ‫נֶפֶ ׁש‬ ‫ַחּיָה‬ ‫ְוע ף‬

. And God said, Let the
u·iamr aleim ishrtzu e·mim shrtz nphsh chie u·ouph waters bring forth
and·he-is-saying Elohim they-shall-roam the·waters roamer-of soul living and·flyer abundantly the moving
creature that hath life, and
‫יְ ע פֵ ף‬ ‫עַ ל‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־‬ ‫ְּפנֵי ־ עַ ל‬ ‫יע‬
ַ ‫ְר ִק‬ ‫ַהּׁשָ ָמיִ ם‬ : fowl [that] may fly above
the earth in the open

firmament of heaven.

ִ ‫ַהּגְ ד‬ ‫ְואֵ ת‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫נֶפֶ ׁש ־‬ ‫ַה ַחּיָה‬

And God created great
u·ibra aleim ath - e·thninm e·gdlim u·ath kl - nphsh e·chie whales, and every living
and·he-is-creating Elohim » the·monsters the·great-ones and·» every-of soul the·living creature that moveth, which
the waters brought forth
‫ר ֶמׂשֶ ת‬
ֹ ‫ָה‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ׁשָ ְרצּו‬ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם‬ ‫ֵהם‬
ֶ ‫ְל ִמינ‬ ‫ְואֵ ת‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫עף ־‬ ‫ּכָ נָף‬ abundantly, after their kind,
and every winged fowl after
e·rmshth ashr shrtzu e·mim l·min·em u·ath kl - ouph knph
his kind: and God saw that
the·moving which they-roam the·waters to·species-of·them and·» every-of flyer-of wing
[it was] good.
‫ְל ִמינֵהּו‬ ‫ַוּי ְַרא‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

1:22 ‫ב ֶר‬

ָ ְ‫וַי‬ ‫ֹתם‬
ָ ‫א‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫לֵ אמֹר א‬ ‫ְּפרּו‬ ‫ּורבּו‬
ְ

And God blessed them,
u·ibrk ath·m aleim l·amr phru u·rbu saying, Be fruitful, and
and·he-is-mblessing »·them Elohim to·to-say-of be-fruitful-you(p) ! and·increase-you(p) ! multiply, and fill the waters
in the seas, and let fowl
‫ּומ ְלאּו‬
ִ ‫ַה ַּמיִ ם ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫ַּבּי ִַּמים‬ ‫ְו ָהע ף‬ ‫יִ ֶרב‬ ‫ָּבאָ ֶרץ‬ : multiply in the earth.

1:23 ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫עֶ ֶרב ־‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ֹקר ־‬

ֶ ‫ב‬ ‫ים‬ ‫יׁשי‬
ִ ‫ח ִמ‬
ֲ : ‫פ‬

And the evening and the

and·he-is-becoming evening and·he-is-becoming morning day fifth

1:24 ‫ֹאמר‬
ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫ּת צֵ א א‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫נֶפֶ ׁש‬ ‫ַחּיָה‬ ‫ְל ִמינָּה‬
24
. And God said, Let the
u·iamr aleim thutza e·artz nphsh chie l·min·e earth bring forth the living
and·he-is-saying Elohim she-shall-cbring-forth the·earth soul living to·species-of·her creature after his kind,
cattle, and creeping thing,
‫ו ֶָר ֶמׂש ְּב ֵה ָמה‬ ‫ְו ַחיְ ת‬ ‫אֶ ֶרץ ־‬ ‫ְל ִמינָּה‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ כֵ ן ־‬: and beast of the earth after
his kind: and it was so.

beast and·moving-animal and·animal-of·him land to·species-of·her and·he-is-becoming so

1:25 ‫ַוּיַעַ ׂש‬ ‫ֱ הים‬

ִ ‫ַחּיַת ־ אֶ ת א‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫ְל ִמינָּה‬ ‫ְואֶ ת‬ ‫ַה ְּב ֵה ָמה ־‬

And God made the beast
u·iosh aleim ath - chith e·artz l·min·e u·ath - e·beme of the earth after his kind,
and·he-is-makingdo Elohim » animal-of the·land to·species-of·her and·» the·beast and cattle after their kind,
and every thing that
‫ְל ִמינָּה‬ ‫ְואֵ ת‬ ‫ּכָ ל‬ ‫ֶר ֶמׂש ־‬ ‫ָהא ֲָד ָמה‬ ‫ְל ִמינֵהּו‬ ‫ַוּי ְַרא‬ creepeth upon the earth
after his kind: and God saw
l·min·e u·ath kl - rmsh e·adme l·min·eu u·ira
that [it was] good.
to·species-of·her and·» every-of moving-animal-of the·ground to·species-of·him and·he-is-seeing

ֶ ‫וַּי‬ ‫ֱ הים‬
ִ ‫ַנעֲׂשֶ ה א‬ ‫אָ ָדם‬ ‫ְּבצַ ְל ֵמנּו‬ ‫מּותנּו‬
ֵ ‫ִּכ ְד‬

. And God said, Let us
u·iamr aleim noshe adm b·tzlm·nu k·dmuth·nu make man in our image,
and·he-is-saying Elohim we-shall-makedo human in·image-of·us as·likeness-of·us after our likeness: and let
them have dominion over
‫ְויִ ְרּדּו‬ ‫ִב ְדגַת‬ ‫ַהּיָם‬ ‫ּובע ף‬
ְ ‫ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ּוב ְּב ֵה ָמה‬
ַ the fish of the sea, and over
the fowl of the air, and over
u·irdu b·dgth e·im u·b·ouph e·shmim u·b·beme
the cattle, and over all the
and·they-shall-sway in·fish-of the·sea and·in·flyer-of the·heavens and·in·the·beast
earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth
‫ּובכָ ל‬
ְ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־‬ ‫ּובכָ ל‬
ְ ‫ָה ֶר ֶמׂש ־‬ ‫ר ֵמׂש‬
ֹ ‫ָה‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־ עַ ל‬ : upon the earth.

So God created man in

. And God said, Behold,
u·iamr aleim ene nththi l·km ath - kl - oshb zro zro I have given you every herb
and·he-is-saying Elohim behold ! I-give to·you(p) » every-of herbage seeding seed bearing seed, which [is]
upon the face of all the
‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ְּפנֵי ־ עַ ל‬ ‫כָ ל‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־‬ ‫ְואֶ ת‬ ‫ּכָ ל ־‬ ‫ָהעֵ ץ ־‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ּב ־‬ ‫ְפ ִרי‬ ‫־‬ earth, and every tree, in the
which [is] the fruit of a tree

yielding seed; to you it shall

1:30 ‫ּולכָ ל‬
ְ ‫ַחּיַת ־‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ‬ ‫ּולכָ ל‬
ְ ‫עף ־‬ ‫ַהּׁשָ ַמיִ ם‬ ‫ּולכֹל‬

And to every beast of the
u·l·kl - chith e·artz u·l·kl - ouph e·shmim u·l·kl earth, and to every fowl of
and·for·every-of animal-of the·land and·for·every-of flyer-of the·heavens and·for·every-of the air, and to every thing
that creepeth upon the earth,
‫ר ֵמׂש‬ ‫ָהאָ ֶרץ ־ עַ ל‬ ‫אֲׁשֶ ר‬ ‫ּב ־‬ ‫נֶפֶ ׁש‬ ‫ַחּיָה‬ ‫ּכָ ל ־ אֶ ת‬ ‫י ֶֶרק ־‬ ‫עֵ ׂשֶ ב‬ ‫ְלאָ ְכלָ ה‬ wherein [there is] life, [I
have given] every green
rumsh ol - e·artz ashr - b·u nphsh chie ath - kl - irq oshb l·akle
herb for meat: and it was so.

. And God saw every

and·he-is-seeing Elohim » all-of which he-madedo and·behold ! good very behold, [it was] very good.
And the evening and the
‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫עֶ ֶרב ־‬ ‫וַיְ ִהי‬ ‫ֹקר ־‬
