A community comes in all shapes and sizes and is formed with people that comes
from different aspects of life. The Community Capacity Building is like a way of
recognizing that even with the differences and diversity of every group and
individual that forms the community, the people can meet at a certain point wherein
they will perform a collective effort and use their different experiences, knowledge,
skills and resources to address and solve shared problems in the community.
Community Capacity Building is empowering the thought of unity to successfully
initiate development to improve or maintain the well-being of the community.

Our community has already launched different community programs – big and small
from outreach programs for the poor to environmental clean-up drives and most of
them were initiated successfully but one issue that I think we tend to overlook or I
find the lack of development here in Misamis Occidental is about the empowerment
of persons with disabilities. As community development emphasizes and encourages
programs that are inclusive and engaging to all people, I think why won’t we tap on
some issues about them. Our community can actually conduct programs that would
promote public awareness about PWDs which I believe would enlighten the people
to reduce discrimination for their part and mainly just protect their rights as a
person. Also, some communities here in the Philippines have already provided and
pushed special measures with regards to the employment for persons with
disabilities and I think it is a great idea to consider them in some of workplaces that
would fit them. With this program, the PWDs will have the chance to earn on their
own and prove that they are capable of something despite of their disabilities also,
breaking barriers which made them feel that separates them from other people,
making them feel that they are accepted in our society and this way we are
recognizing our duty as a community to help and empower them.
