Building description:
Footprint: 30 m x 30 m.
Storeys: 1
Location: Ottawa
Slab on grade insulation: Insulation R-value 0.7 m2K/W, Length of insulation: 0.8 m
Windows: Triple clear glazing, 6.4 mm argon fill, insulated fiberglass fixed frame. Windows cover 40% of
all 4 walls.
2 doors on each side of building. Single bank, standard double swinging type. Assume steel doors (solid
urethane core without thermal break) with 80% of area covered by low-e double glazing (emissivity =
0.6, 1/4” air space).
Other information:
Computers and other equipment have a load of 11 W/m2 (use the same convective/radiative split as for
computers)
If you need to use additional perimeter heating, use electrical baseboard heaters.
Deliverables:
Zone Heating/Cooling load calculations (not coil load, only zone i.e. not including supply air) – November
5th 2015.
-Report should provide all calculations. Sample calculations are acceptable when same equation
is used multiple times.
-Ducting design.
-Equipment selection.
-Come up with one way to reduce peak cooling load, and one way to reduce heating load.
Calculate the new peak heating and cooling loads. Discuss how these may affect the yearly
energy consumption.
-Report should provide all calculations. Sample calculations are acceptable when same equation
is used multiple times.
