REED CITY — With the influx
of rain and melting snow and
ice in March, the Small Business
Association is offering loans to
help in the Northern Michigan
area.
As of Saturday, April 6, SBA
offices will be open to take inqui-
ries on loans available to home-
owners, renters, businesses and
non-profits.
According to a press release
sent out by Osceola County
Emergency Management, the
county received between one
and two inches of rain and four
to six inches of additional water-
shed from melting snow packs.
The loans available for rent-
ers and homeowners to replace
disaster-damaged or destroyed
clothing furniture, cars or ap-
pliances can go up to $40,000.
Homeowners may also apply
for up to $200,000 to repair or
replace primary residences to
their pre-disaster condition, ac-
cording to the press release.
Businesses and nonprofits can
apply for up to a $2 million SBA
loan to repair or replace any
disaster-damaged or destroyed
real estate, machinery, equip-
ment or inventory.
If applying to a business loan,
the SBA will send out an inspec-
tor to estimate the cost of dam-
age once an application has been
completed.

away peacefully at his
home surrounded by his
family, on Friday, April 5,
2019. He was 65.
Bert was born April 6,
1953 in Clare to Bert and
Etta (Maxwell) Walter.
He was a graduate of
Clare High School. Bert
married Paula H. Flem-
ing on July 1, 1988 in
Clare and she survives.
He retired from Evart
Products after 41 years
of dedication and he
faithfully served 36 years
on the Evart Area Joint
Fire Department. Bert
loved camping with his
grandchildren, fishing,
hunting, and spending
time with his family. He
never knew a stranger
and considered everyone
a friend. Bert was kind to
everyone he came in con-
tact with.
Mr. Walter is survived
by his wife of 31 years,
Paula (Fleming) Walter
of Evart, four sons, Ja-

“The girls played well tonight,”
Cadillac coach Dan Dahlquist
said. “They put together a string
of hits when needed to produce
runs on the board.
“We had great senior leader-
ship on defense where they made
plays to help our pitchers out of
jams. Autumn Fosmore turned
a double play with the bases

of an inning. Our seniors came

On Saturday, April 6 the
Reed City General Federa-
tion of Women’s Club went
around to key locations
throughout Reed City, plac-
ing around 250 pinwheels,
to bring awareness to child
abuse for National Child
Abuse Awareness month.
“The hope is to bring
awareness that this is a
big thing in nationally and
in our community,” said
GFWC President Shelly
Scharlow.

“We tried to place the
pinwheels in the most no-
ticeable areas around the
city,” said Scharlow.
While Reed City’s GFWC
placed over 200 blue pin-
wheels, Scharlow said oth-
er cities placed even more,
like Big Rapids who placed
around 600.
“It is nice to see other
places bringing some focus
to the issue,” said Scharlow.
Going into next year,
Scharlow hopes to be able
to place upwards of anoth-
er 200 around the city.
The pinwheels placed by
the GFWC this year will be
up until the end of April
when Child Abuse Aware-
ness month comes to an end.
In addition to the pin-
wheels, Kiddies Club
House in Reed City is team-
ing up with the GFWC to
put together this year’s
children’s parade in cele-
bration of April also being
Month of the Child, said
Scharlow.
The parade is set to start
at 2 p.m. on Thursday,
April 25.
