Generic phase directional relay I>dir, I>>dir (IOC, UMZ) Relay

It’s a generic relay model providing two directional controlled phase short circuit protection functions
(67, IOC).

The unit ‘I>dir’ starts the directional measurement. The directional measurement check the directional
and is sending a forward and a reverse signal to the over current units ‘I>dir’ and ‘I>>dir’. For each
over current unit it is possible to setup the direction option:
a) None : for non-directional tripping
b) Forward: for forward directional tripping
c) Reverse: for reverse directional tripping

Further it’s possible to set the max. torque angle, see ‘Directional’ slot, page: ‘Voltage Polarizing’
The angle is entered as ‘leading’ MTA angle -> the voltage phasor is shifted by the entered MTA
angle.

The nominal current and nominal voltage can be set in the ‘Measure’ slot (1A or 5A e.g. 100,110 or
120V ). All current settings are defined in p.u. ( x In ). The delay can be set in the corresponding units
(I>dir,I>>dir) in seconds.

U + MTA

I
α

α= angle( U, shifted by MTA) – angle(I)

The directional unit detects a forward fault if | α | < 90 and a reverse fault if | α | > 90
