Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in


METEOROID, METEOR AND METEORITE
For Grade 8 Students
September 23, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. define meteoroid, meteor and meteorite,


b. appreciate the importance of meteoroid, meteor and meteorite and;
c. list down the meteorites here in the Philippines that have been
accepted internationally.

C. Materials: Laptop, Television, Scrambled words, Scrambled Pictures

B. MOTIVATION

“ARRANGE ME”

 The class will be divided into four (4) groups.


 Each group will be given scrambled pictures.
 They will arrange the pictures to form images that will describe the
topic for today.

 The group who will finish first will be the winner.
 This activity is good for 3 minutes.

C. LESSON PROPER

1. ENGAGE

“LET’S NAME IT”

 The class will be divided into four (4) groups.


 Each group will be given scrambled words.
 They will arrange the letters to form words that will name those pictures
from the previous activity.
 The first group who can arrange the words and post it below the correct
picture will be the winner.
 This activity is good for 3 minutes.

2. EXPLORE

“WATCH AND LEARN”

 The students will choose their own partner.


 A 4 minutes animated video about Meteoroids, Meteors and Meteorites will
be played.
 Each student will take down notes while watching the video.

3. EXPLAIN

“METEOROID, METEOR AND METEORITE”

Meteoroid - is a broken up rock and dust from either a comet, asteroid, the Moon, or
from Mars
- A meteoroid can be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a
boulder.
Meteor – is a light phenomenon or a streak of light that occurs when a meteoroid
burns up as it enters Earth’s atmosphere.

- A meteor moves swiftly and seems to fall on the ground.


- It “shoots” from a point in the sky, making people think that it is a
shooting star.

Meteorite - A meteoroid that reaches the ground and survives impact.

the month when they reach their peak.

Meteorites are of importance to scientist ion studying the occurrence of


different elements and compounds on Earth. There are three types of meteorites:
stony, stony – iron and iron meteorites.

In the Philippines, there are only five meteorites that have been accepted
internationally.

4. ELABORATE

 The class will be divided into three (3) groups.


 Each group will be given worksheet.
 They will write the name of five meteorites here in the Philippines that have
been accepted internationally and what type of meteorite it is.
 This activity is good for 5 minutes.

5. EVALUATE

 This is an individual task.


 The questions will be flash on the screen.
 Each question is good only for 30 seconds.

IV. ASSIGNMENT

Research on the Internet or interview your relatives about their


superstitious beliefs about meteors, write your answers on a one half crosswise
sheet of paper.
