Synopsis for

Nano-technology for water purification purpose:

Three research papers are thoroughly studied, analyzed in order to understand the use of
nanotechnology in water-purification. Here we will give brief about these three papers and the aim
of the all paper are to use different nanoparticles that can be impregnated on filters in order to
make the water pure from different phythogens and bacterial impurities and make it drinkable and
cheap for everyone to get the pure water as according to WHO there are almost 1 billion people in
the world that do not have accesses to pure water.

Coming back to main topic lets first go to first paper and have some insight what it discusses. In
this bacterial inactivation is achieved during percolation through the sheet, rather then removal of
bacteria from effluent by filtration as we know silver nanoparticles exhibit antibacterial properties
towards suspension of E-coli with log reduction values and the silver loss was minimal of about
.1ppm. and this shows silver nanoparticles could be a effective emergency and point of use water
treatment.

In second paper experiments and filtration tests with nano-fibre membranes containing TiO2
nanoparticles in view of effluent treatment is done. In first part focus was laid on to remove organic
matter and specifically on humic acid and in second part it was observed how much bacterial effect
is removed. And it was observed that 83% of humic acid is removed and 76% of bacteria are
removed from the effluent. It can be concluded that nanofibers membranes could be used as a high-
flux filtration technique for effluent recuperation.

In third paper potential of a functional nanofiber microfiltration membrane as an anti-bacterial

water filter is done. And the technique used is electrospinning and it is a process of making
continuous nanofibers in a non-cover form. This process spins fibers ranging from 80nm diameter
to several hundred nanometers and it is a simple, rapid and inexpensive method. The nanofiber
membranes with 5% oinf% WSCP can be used anti-bacterial membrane and short-term
experiments demonstrated that a 5.2log cfu/100ml removal is possible with hospital waste water.
