ISSUES PREVAILING AROUND THE COMPLEX

• EVEN THOUGH THE DELHI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY HAS BEEN RENOVATING


THE BHIKAJI CAMA PLACE FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS, THIS COMMERCIAL COMPLEX
HAS RETURNED AGAIN TO A STATE OF NEGLECT AND FILTH.

• THE SURVEY CONDUCTED BY SVAYAM - NATIONAL CENTRE FOR INCLUSIVE


ENVIRONMENTS - HAS TAKEN A CLOSE LOOK AT THE INFRASTRUCTURE OR THE
LACK OF IT IN THE COMPLEX WHICH HAD COME UP IN 1980 ON THE BASIS OF
THE MASTER PLAN OF DELHI 1960.

• “ UTTER DISDAIN FOR PUBLIC PROPERTY AND LACK OF MAINTAINENCE” & IS IN


SHAMBLES.

1. THE RECENT CONSTRUCTION OF THE FLYOVERS HAS RESULTED IN THE


ILLOGICAL STRUCTURES OF BUS STOPS THAT ARE LOCATED JUST AFTER THE
FLYOVER AND CAUSES A DANGEROUS JUNCTION FOR PEDESTRIANS.

THE BUSES MAY COME AND STOP IN FRONT OF THE MARKED AREA WHICH
MAKES THESE JUNCTIONS A DEATH TRAP.

2. SOME OTHER ISSUES INCLUDE – EARLY WATER LOGGING INSIDE THE METRO
STATION WHICH HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED THIS PAST YEAR.

EVEN BEFORE THE INAUGURATION, THERE HAS BEEN INSTANCES OF WATER


LOGGING OF METRO STATION AND ROADS FILLED WITH DIRTY WATER.

3. IMPROPER PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS, OVERFLOWING SEWERS, ENROACHED


PARKING SPACES, ARE SOME OTHER PREVAILING ISSUES IN THE COMPLEX.
PEDESTRIANS FORCED TO WALK ON ROADS
• PEDESTRIAN PATHWAYS ON ARTERIAL ROADS DO NOT PROVIDE SAFE UNIFORM ACCESS
FROM RING ROAD; FROM BHIKAJI BUS SHELTER NEAR GAIL BUILDING, THERE IS NO
KERB CUT AND PEDESTRIAN PATHWAY IS TOO HIGH,” THE SURVEY NOTES ADDING
THAT “DUE TO KERB HEIGHT THE ELDERLY ARE FORCED TO WALK ON ROAD
ENDANGERING THEIR LIVES.”
• LEVEL DIFFERENCES, UNSUALLY HIGH WITH NO KERB CUTS HINDER WITH EASY
MOVEMENT OF PEDESTRIANS.

ONE-FOOT PATHWAYS
• CARS, VEHICLES PARK ON THE LIMITED PATHWAYS AND BLOCK ALL PASSAGES, RAMPS.
• THE COMMERCIAL EXPENDIENCY HAS LED TO SHRINKAGE OF PEDESTRIAN PATHWAYS
TO MERE 300MM, WHICH DOESN’T LET EVEN ONE PERSON TO WALK EASILY.
• THIS CAUSES HAVOC AND FORCES THE PEDESTRIANS TO WALK ON THE ROADS.
OVERFLOWING SEWER WATER TOILET THAT WAS NEVER USED
• THE ROADS OVERFLOWING WITH SEWER WATER • EVEN WITH RESPECT TO THE LONE FREE PUBLIC
MAKING WALKING NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE AS NEAR TOILET IN THE COMPLEX WHICH HAS AN
A RAMP CLOSE TO ANSAL CHAMBER I. ACCESSIBLE UNIT
• THE STEEP RAMP AND SMALL DOOR MAKES IT
• IT ALSO NOTED THAT SEVERAL RAMPS THAT INACCESSIBLE, THOUGH IT DISPLAYS AN
WERE PROVIDED DURING THE 2005 RE- ACCESSIBILITY SIGN
DESIGNING EXERCISE HAVE BEEN RENDERED • ACCESSIBLE TOILET UNIT LOCKED AND ON
USELESS FOR VARIOUS REASONS. OPENING IT FOUND THAT IT WAS NEVER PUT TO
USE FOR WHICH IT WAS INTENDED.

THE ACCESSIBLE PARKING WHICH WAS MADE AT THE
RAMPED ENTRANCE FROM ANSAL CHAMBER – I SIDE HAS
BEEN ENCROACHED

GARBAGE DISPOSED IN FRONT OF


• THERE WAS NO AISLE SPACE FOR THE WHEELCHAIR USERS ANSAL CHAMBER
TO DISEMBARK AND WALK/WHEEL THROUGH THE
PARKED VEHICLES TO THE RAMP. THE ENTRY TO THE
RAMP IS BLOCKED BY PARKED CARS. ONE WOULD
OTHERWISE GET DISCOURAGED BY THE UNHYGIENIC
PASSAGE LEADING TO RAMP.

• IT WAS ALSO REVEALED THAT THE RAMPS HAVE BECOME
