College Application Narrative

An achievement is a task done successfully by effort, courage, and/or skill. There have

been multiple great achievements in my life, but this one I will never forget. My junior year I

played for the Lady Owls Basketball team. We had been known in the past as not competitive

nor good. We were 2-20 my sophomore year and the Punxsutawney Chucks were always the

ones that would dominate us for the previous times. At the beginning of this season, we were

starting off the same way as the last season. We did not work as a team and had no drive to play.

Playing as a team is a big role in sports, and work and determination must come from everyone

and not just one person.

We were in our defensive press break and the clock was down to three seconds and our

point guard threw up the ball from half court and we started jumping and cheering. The score

was 44-44. She was fouled. She went to the foul line for three shots with no time left. We were

guaranteed a win if she made at least one of the shots. She missed the first shot, but then she

made her second foul shot and we automatically won. The Bradford Lady Owls had beaten the

three-year undefeated district nine champions, the Punxsutawney Chucks. Determination and

hard work are vital for a team's success. These two achievements have made an impact on my

life since the night we beat them. This win showed me that no matter how imperfect other teams

and people say I am, I am capable of winning.

Determination is an important factor in the overall success or failure of an effort.

Unfortunately, determination is not something that comes easy to most people. To be truly

determined, a person must first be passionate about what they are doing, and this can go for

everything, not just sports. Determination comes with school too; you must have the same drive

for school and in all your classes. I personally know that in the college courses I take, I try my

hardest to make sure I achieve the highest grade, therefore, I can to get the college credits.

Consistency is also a big part of everything a person does. Keeping up with assignments and not

reducing your work ethic will allow being determined even easier. I will use these skills I have

learned to better myself and prepare for what the future holds for me.
