ABSTRACT

This research explains the current phenomenon which is street begging. According to Khan and
Menka (2014), it is the effect of an unbalanced socioeconomic system: economic deprivation, a
breakdown of the socio-economic structure and destitution. The reason for this study is to look for
data about lived encounters of old beggars, especially on how they survive on a regular day to day
existence using Qualitative Phenomenological approach. The respondents, undergo in one-on-one
interview using semi- structured interview guide that consist of open-ended questions. For their profile and
answers to know if they are qualified as respondents or not. It is recorded using mobile phone and writing
instruments that served as back-up file. In developing of thematic analysis is the building up of the
thematic map with generalize themes. The findings shows that the following reasons of old beggars are
associated with different kinds of struggles. Given that the respondents is poor and experiencing from lack
of job opportunities that is one of the major reason of begging. Same with their current condition of old
beggars some people made a naïve judgment like misinterpretation and misunderstanding in their situation.
