One of the biggest and most fascinating festivals on the Peruvian calendar is Incan celebration Inti Raymi, which takes place annually on 24

June in honour of the revered Incan sun god Inti.

The Festival of the Sun coincides with the winter solstice and harvest time, when the sun is farthest from the earth. Since 1412, when Inti Raymi

was first celebrated, ancient Incas gather each year to honour the sun god and pray for his return.

Still to this day, thousands of locals, as well as Peruvian and international tourists, take to the streets in a colourful celebration that includes

dancing, singing, lavish feasts and elaborate cultural re-enactments. Over 500 hundred actors take part in the re-enactments, descending on the

Incan archaeological site Sacsayhuaman.

The celebrations run for a week in the lead up to the main event, with the chance to attend street fairs and live concerts, and experience

traditional folk dances and Peruvian music.

The Festival of the Sun has been celebrated for over six hundred years and is now an inseparable part of life in Cusco, the 'Archaeological

Capital of the Americas'.

1.- It is June 24 and Cusco have the most important festival in Perú. In this month, Cusco receives more tourists than the rest of
the year. There is an opportunity to meet people from different places and to exchange experiences and anecdotes with them.

Raymi, que se lleva a cabo anualmente el 24 de junio en honor del venerado dios inca del sol Inti.
El Festival del Sol coincide con el solsticio de invierno y la época de la cosecha, cuando el sol está más
alejado de la tierra. Desde 1412, cuando se celebró por primera vez el Inti Raymi, los antiguos incas se
reúnen cada año para honrar al dios sol y orar por su regreso.
Hasta el día de hoy, miles de lugareños, así como turistas peruanos e internacionales, salen a las calles en
una colorida celebración que incluye bailes, cantos, lujosas fiestas y elaboradas recreaciones culturales.
Más de 500 actores participan en las recreaciones, que descienden en el sitio arqueológico incaico de
Sacsayhuaman.
Las celebraciones duran una semana antes del evento principal, con la posibilidad de asistir a ferias
callejeras y conciertos en vivo, y experimentar las danzas tradicionales y la música peruana.
El Festival del Sol se ha celebrado durante más de seiscientos años y ahora es una parte inseparable de la
vida en Cusco, la "Capital Arqueológica de las Américas".
