In Cusco, Peru, we have an interesting and cultural holiday called Inti Raymi.

It takes place on
June 24th and it’s celebrated every year during the winter solstice. During this time, all people
have a lot of fun! Before the holiday, people of different countries go to Cusco to celebrate Inti
Raymi. When Inti Raymi begins, there is a theatrical representation outside the Coricancha
complex. A lot of actors and dancers participate here! They dress up in typical clothing and
perform historical ceremonies. After that, people go to Plaza de Armas to continue the
ceremony. They await the appearance of the god Inti in silence and they thank him for the
prosperous harvests of the year. The last activity is the most important and it takes places in
Sacsayhuamán fortress. Here, the Inca and his entourage pay their respects to the Sun and
then, he says a prayer in Quechua and simulates a sacrifice. Finally, the shaman predicts the
prosperity of the coming year. I’d like to attend this holiday one day.
