Week 2 - Tuesday Practice #18

Grandview High School Practice Plan

Non-Conference Objective: Tuesday’s are very high intensity practices with the emphasis on execution.
In this practice we will be tiring the players out so that by the time practice is almost over it’s a 4th
quarter atmosphere. When players get tired leaders start to rise and motivate other players. How these
players act when dog tired lets us coaches be able to discuss which players fit which roles best.

3:00pm – Start Warm Up (captains will run warm ups since its practice #18)

3:10pm – Players split into Position groups (Offense day for players who play both sides)

Offense

- RB Coach: Footwork warm up, run plays on air with 2nd sting QB (Focus On execution)
- QB Coach: Footwork warm up, 1st and 3rdstring QB Throws to WRs (Focus on Execution)
- WR Coach: Footwork warm up, Running routes with 1st and 3rd string QB (Focus on Execution)
o 3:25pm switch QB’s (next week switches QBs)
- OL Coach: Footwork warm up, Basic Zone Blocking drill for Execution (running plays on air)
 This works on the entire ball movement part of football. This allows for other
players to see other QBs, RBs, and WRs. Coach can continuously evaluate
players. This part of practice is meant to be muscle memory. Coaches should
stop the drills if they see anything they can teach other players at the same
time.
Defense: All coaches will warm up their players with footwork and following that comes the tackling
circuit (Bottom right of Field, south west corner. (These drills have been done more than once already
this season. Players and coaches should not need descriptions) 3:10am to 3:30am with 5 min break for
defense.

- Angle tackle (3 cones): two cones five yards apart with two even lines. The coach will angle the
third cone so players must use an angle to make the tackle. One player runs the ball while the
other tackles. Players must stay inside out keeping their chin and chest up and running their
hips through the tackle.

- Apex Dummy Drill: Very similar to angle tackle drill. Three even lines 5 yards apart with one
player holding the bag and the first player in line (5 yards away from bag) is tackling. So three
people should be tackling at the same time. The coach will point a direction for the players
holding the bags to roll the bag that direction. Holding it loosely players will here a whistle and
attack the bag inside out using a roll tackle. Meaning their head is NOT in front of the bag like
the previous drill.
- Single Man Sled: Players will line up in front of the sled. Coach will tell the players to put their
head on the right or the left. Coach blows the whistle and one player should stay low, drive
their feet, and shoot the hips to lift the bag as high as you can in the air. Players should hit the
bag drive it for one second and let go. This drill is rapid fire.

Only one sled not two like in the photo. And the coach will NOT
stand on the sled.

- Chute Drill: This drill is for players to stay low and use Combat Zone Movements. This
movement is when a players stays in a low athletic position. The player will start on one side
underneath the shelf and shuffle all the way down and back. This drill is rapid fire and should
tire the players out a little.
-
3:40pm – Will split team into (7v7) (OLvsDL)

- Coaches run basic execution plays please!

- 7v7 north side 10yrd line going out (Long Field situation)
- OLvsDL south side 10yrd going out

4:00pm – 1v1s and 9 on 7

- DBs, QBs, WRs North side 20yd going in (REDZONE)

- OL DL LB RB and 2nd string QB south side 10yrd going out

4:15pm – Special teams (Kickoff) Full team on air. Rapid fire between 1st and 2nd string.

- There is already a depth to the kickoff squad which players already know. Coaches will align a
scout kickoff return that mimics the upcoming opponent. Players will run in their lanes to see
what the upcoming blocking looks like.

4:25pm – Full team period (STAY OFF THE GROUND) 1 offense vs 2nd Defense and 2nd Offense vs 1st
Defense. This period is full speed and the tempo should be really high.

- 1st Offense: OC will run his first 10 plays of the game against the 2nd defense to see if he likes it.
- 2nd offense will run opponents plays vs 1st defense

4:35pm – switch players around so they get experience like the 1st string did.

4:35pm-4:40pm rest period and set up for last full team period.
4:40pm – Full team period 1st string vs 1st string and 2nd string vs 2nd sting. This will be all situations.
(Execution and energy)

- Starting on Offense of 20yrd the OC will call any play he wants and same goes for the DC. We
want to see if the offense can set up a good drive and for the Defense to get off the field.
- This is NOT a live period so coaches blow the whistle super early every time. The defense will
get the benefit of the dout in order to keep players safe.

4:55pm – Last part of practice (SUDDEN VICTORY)

- The offense will have the ball with only 10 yards to go in order to score. They will receive four
plays to score.
- If the do core then offense gets to eat first at team meal that week visa versa.

5pm – bring it in for a cool down stretch ran by the captains
