SITE SPECIFIC PROCEDURE

Top up Diesel

1. Personnel to wear appropriate PPE for such operation.


2. Identify which unit requires top-up
3. Roll out the diesel hose. Make sure the valves are close first
4. Pull it out and carry the hose to the desired unit
5. Make sure there is no obstruction along the way
6. Before opening the unit fuel cap, make sure the engine is off (if possible).
7. Walk-the-line to confirm again with the arrangement are in satisfactory condition.
8. In the situation of topping up diesel while running engine, ensure standby fire watcher to be
at place with fire extinguisher at a side .
9. Spill Kit Equipment’s readily accessible and in place.
10. Engine surface temperature is below the auto ignition temperature of the fuel.
11. Ensure spark arrestor has been installed at the pot of the exhaust of the engine.
12. Fire Blanket readily and accessible in place.
13. Precautions shall be taken to prevent the ignition of flammable vapors by sources such as
the following;
- Hot surfaces
- Radiant heat
- Frictional heat or sparks
- Static electricity
- Stray currents
- Ovens, furnaces and heating equipment
14. Put the nozzle into the tank
15. Have someone to open the diesel valve.
16. Have a Drip Pan / Tray where ever accessible.
17. Fill it up until it’s ½“ to neck – stop before overflowing.
18. Make sure clean up immediately if there’s any spill.
19. Close the diesel valve and roll the hose back to its reel.
