NEVER DO
1. Every cylinder must be inspected by an authorized LPG test station at least once every 10 years.
2. The last inspection date should be clearly stamped on the cylinder collar, neck or footing.
3. If any leakage is detected or suspected from a cylinder, turn it off immediately and refer to Emergency Procedures.
4. LPG cylinders (except specially designed forklift and automotive cylinders) must always be stored and transported in an upright position.
5. This ensures the pressure relief valve is not immersed in the liquid and is located in the vapor space as required by its design approvals.
6. Cylinders should be stored in a well-ventilated space and away from possible sources of ignition, excess heat or other compressed gases.
7. Always secure cylinders during transport, remove any hose, hose fittings and regulators and attach a sealing plug whenever the appliance is
not connected.
8. Shut-off cylinder valve before disconnecting from appliance and ensure appliances are turned off before connecting new cylinder.
9. The filling of any cylinder (other than automotive) from a service station browser is an offence.
7 – Point Safety Check
Environment
Place cylinders in a well-ventilated area, away from sources of ignition.
O-Ring
Inspect the rubber O-ring inside the valve. Ensure that it is free from scratches or cracks.
Regulator
Use the correct regulator and check its condition frequently. Replace within 3 years.
Hose
Use the correct hose and check its condition regularly. Replace the hose every 2 years.
Hose Connection
Use metal clamps to attach the hose to the regulator and appliance.
Flame Quality
Ensure that your burner produces a blue flame. Always maintain the quality of your gas appliance.
2. Check that the safety cap and security seal are in place. Don’t accept cylinders without the safety cap and safety seal.
3. Don’t change cylinders near sources of ignition. A naked flame or a cigarette could ignite any gas that is released.
4. Attach the regulator and ensure that it is securely connected to the cylinder valve. Apply soapy water to check for leaks.
5. Store cylinders that are not in use in a well-ventilated, secure area, preferably out of doors, away from direct sunlight, heat and other sources
of ignition. Don’t store cylinders in basements.
