Storage of Cylinders
1. Cylinders should be stored in a safe, dry, well-ventilated place
2. Flammable substances such as oil and volatile liquids or corrosive
substances should not be stored in the same area.
3. Oxygen cylinders and flammable gas cylinders shall be stored separately,
at least 6.6 meters (20 feet) apart or separated by a fire proof, 1.6 meters
(5 feet) high partition.
4. All storage areas shall have Arabic and English "No Smoking Permitted"
signs prominently displayed.
5. All cylinders should be chained or otherwise secured in an upright
position.
6. Valve caps shall be kept in place when cylinders are not in use.
7. Flammable substances shall not be stored within 50 feet of cylinder
storage areas.
8. Cylinders shall not be stored at temperatures exceeding 54 oC (130F).
9. Cylinders shall be stored out of the direct rays of the sun, in protective
enclosures or sun shelters.
10. Empty and full cylinders must be stored separately with empty cylinders
plainly marked as such, to avoid confusion.
11. Smoking or any other source of ignition shall be prohibited near storage
areas.

Handling of Cylinders
1. Cylinders should never be lifted by their valves.
2. When the cylinder is not in use, the valve shall be protected with the valve
cap.
3. If cylinders are to be lifted by a crane, specially designed bottle holders
with lifting eyes should be used.
4. Chain and wire rope slings can not allow cylinders can be slip.
5. A trolley is to be used for slinging; its base should be strong enough to
take the weight of the cylinders.
6. Do not lift a cylinder with an electromagnet.
7. Cylinders in transit on vehicles shall have valve caps in place and be
firmly secured to prevent movement.

Inspecting Equipment
1. Only soapy water should be used to check for leaks.

2. An acetylene cylinder valve wrench shall be available at all times for the
cylinder in use.
3. A torch ignition should be readily available. A friction lighter shall be used
for this purpose.

4. A flashback is very dangerous. Flashback is caused by gases being mixed


in the hose(s).

5. Use flashback flame arrestors prevent from the reveres flam.
